Public Entity Defense Associate AttorneyDirect Counsel is seeking a Public Entity Defense Associate Attorney to join a growing litigation practice in Orange County. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience defending public agencies, municipalities, and government entities in complex civil litigation matters.The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of litigation experience and a strong interest in public entity defense, government tort liability, civil rights litigation, and employment-related matters involving public agencies.ResponsibilitiesRepresent public entities, municipalities, and government agencies in a variety of litigation matters, including:Police liability and excessive force claimsCivil rights defenseEmployment and labor disputesDiscrimination, harassment, and retaliation claimsWrongful termination mattersGeneral tort liabilityPremises liability claimsConduct legal research and draft:PleadingsMotionsBriefsAppellate filingsReview and analyze public records, discovery materials, and case-related documentsHandle all phases of litigation, including:Written discoveryDepositionsMotion practiceTrial preparationAppealsAttend court appearances, mediations, settlement conferences, and hearingsPrepare exhibits, witness materials, and trial bindersCoordinate directly with public entity clients, risk managers, opposing counsel, experts, and court personnelDevelop litigation strategies and assist in achieving favorable outcomes for clientsQualificationsJ.D. from an ABA-accredited law schoolActive California Bar membership in good standing3–5 years of litigation experienceExperience in one or more of the following areas preferred:Public entity defenseGovernment tort liabilityCivil rights defenseEmployment litigationLaw enforcement defenseStrong legal research, writing, and analytical abilitiesExcellent oral advocacy and communication skillsStrong organizational and time management skillsAbility to manage multiple matters independently while working collaboratively with a teamProven track record of achieving favorable outcomes through motion practice, settlement, or trialCompensation & BenefitsSalary range: $130,000 – $175,000Performance-based bonus opportunitiesRetirement planStudent loan assistance programPaid office parking or transit passComprehensive benefits packageProfessional development and advancement opportunitiesWhy This OpportunityRepresent public agencies and municipalities in sophisticated litigation mattersGain substantial courtroom and litigation experienceReceive mentorship from experienced litigators and trial attorneysHandle meaningful client-facing responsibilitiesCollaborative and supportive team environmentClear path for professional development and long-term advancementDirect Counsel is committed to connecting exceptional legal talent with premier law firms and fostering inclusive hiring practices.
