Technical Editor Position
The Technical Editor supports defense programs by ensuring all documentation is clear, accurate, compliant, and professionally presented. This role develops and maintains organizational writing standards and oversees the quality of all deliverables submitted under government contracts. The Technical Editor ensures each document meets Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) specifications, aligns with applicable military standards, and accurately reflects the technical input of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs). Working closely with engineering, program management, and quality teams, this position plays a critical role in producing high-quality documentation that meets stringent Department of Defense (DoD) expectations and supports successful contract execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and continually refine a comprehensive company style guide to ensure consistency, clarity, and quality across all written deliverables.
- Review and edit all written deliverables prior to submission to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company standards and client requirements.
- Verify that all documents meet the requirements outlined in the Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) and comply with all applicable military standards, including relevant Data Item Descriptions (DIDs).
- Define and implement a structured review and approval process for Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project requirements.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of professional experience in technical editing.
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a technical field such as engineering, computer science, information systems, or a related discipline.
- Direct experience editing or writing U.S. Army contract deliverables IAW related CDRLs and DIDs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including developing and maintaining document templates.
- Experience handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and working within environments compliant with NIST SP 800‑171 or CMMC Level 2 requirements.
- U.S. citizen required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
