View the comprehensive information about the competitive benefits package on our careers page then scroll down to CENTERS Benefits.Job SummaryThe Part-Time Audiovisual (AV) Technician is a member of the Student Center AV team and provides support for events held in the Bloomberg Student Center to include AV equipment setup, testing, operation, and strike-down.This position will work on-site at Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. JHU is recognized as America's first research university, a place that has revolutionized higher education in the U.S. and continues to bring knowledge and discoveries to the world.

JHU opened its first-ever student center in August 2025. The 148,000 gross square feet Bloomberg Student Center will transform the student experience by providing spaces, amenities, and opportunities for students who want to socialize, connect, create, and relax. The building is designed to be a welcoming environment for all Hopkins students while extending an invitation to the community through events, programs, and dining opportunities.Essential FunctionsSet up, operate, and strike audiovisual equipment in a hospitality and live-event environmentProvide excellent customer service to clients during eventTroubleshoot AV equipment and replace defective or malfunctioning partsSupport daily operations for the gaming lounge areas, DMC, and digital studio to assist students with equipment usePerform routine inspection of audiovisual systems and equipmentSupport internal audiovisual training of peersAssist professional staff with audiovisual equipment recommendations for specific events and for future purchaseDocument troubleshooting procedures and resolutions for future referenceQualificationsEducation and Experience:A high school diploma or its equivalentCurrently enrolled Johns Hopkins University student preferredStrong working knowledge of AV equipmentWorking knowledge of sound systemsWorking knowledge of projectors and TVsWorking knowledge of camera and lighting techniquesSkills and Abilities:Excellent customer service, organization, communication, and problem solving skillsWorking knowledge of Mac and PC computersWork Environment and Physical DemandsWork Environment:Office and events environmentMaintain flexible hours for occasional events that may occur on weekends and eveningsNon-smoking environmentModerate to loud noisePhysical Demands:Must be able to traverse throughout the arena and campus.
