Job Location: Arizona State Hospital, 501 N. 24th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85008

Job Summary
The Psychiatrist POOL will provide in‑patient specialty psychiatric care to patients admitted to the Arizona State Hospital. Responsibilities include performing diagnostic examinations, preparing court‑ordered evaluations and affidavits, prescribing medications, developing behavioral plans, monitoring patient progress toward treatment and recovery goals, leading a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with outpatient teams and community providers, completing inpatient documentation, preparing reports for legal and administrative purposes, and participating in hospital committees and policy development.
Job Duties
- Perform diagnostic examinations, court order evaluations, affidavits, prescribe medications, and monitor care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals.
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of seriously mentally ill patients committed to ASH.
- Provide leadership for a multidisciplinary treatment team and oversee work of the team in developing and implementing a plan of care.
- Work with other professionals in the recovery model including nurses, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants.
- Attend hospital committees and medical staff meetings.
- Complete required documentation and prepare reports for legal and administrative purposes.
- Other duties as assigned related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
- Standards of psychiatric care including detailed understanding of diagnosis, treatment, and management of mental disorders and evidence‑based treatment of psychiatric illnesses.
- Performance Management, Continuous Quality Improvement, and Lean methodologies.

- Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacologic skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience leading a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Selective Preference
- Experience working with seriously mentally ill patients.
Pre‑Employment Requirements
- MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine, completion of a residency program in Psychiatry, and board eligibility or board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
- Medical license to practice in the State of Arizona.
- Valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S.41‑ or obtain within seven working days of beginning employment.
Driving Requirements
Employees who drive on state business must possess and retain a current, valid state‑issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. They are subject to driver license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete any driver training.
