Purpose of Position

The attending psychiatrist will provide direct patient care, clinical guidance, and collaboration with interdisciplinary team members within Behavioral Health, Substance Use Disorder, and Ambulatory Medicine settings. The physician is responsible for all aspects of psychiatric patient care, including safety and quality, and will engage at two clinical sites on a part-time basis: Broadway and Cumberland, providing assessment, medication management, and supervision of treatment for individuals receiving behavioral health and substance use disorders care.

  • NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health BROADWAY: Article 28 DOH Medical Practice, Collaborative Care

Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct care to patients referred or assigned to the behavioral health outpatient team, including best practices for medication management, appropriate and timely care, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Provide direct care to patients referred or assigned to the Substance Use Disorders (aka SUD) outpatient team, including best practices for medication management, appropriate and timely care, and comprehensive documentation.
  • Complete psychiatric admission assessment, with a focus on comprehensive risk assessment for all new intakes, and re-assessment of patients, in a timely fashion consistent with policy.
  • Develop experience in the full range of medication assisted treatment (MAT) options, including treatment for Opioid Use Disorders and buprenorphine in its various forms for individuals with substance use disorder.
  • Conduct appropriate outreach and relevant documentation as per policy.
  • Complete treatment plan documentation consistent with policy and appropriate to patient's risk level. Partner with interdisciplinary team members to review and approve care plans.
  • Participate in and conduct inter-disciplinary team meetings as per the standard of work and policy.
  • Provide crisis intervention when needed through appropriate de-escalation. Lead during outpatient behavioral health crises across the facility.
  • Participate in medical codes in the clinic until the Code Team arrives.
  • Work with all teams to help patients move through appropriate levels of care.
  • Appropriate risk stratification and re-assessment of risk level.
  • Consider referrals to community resources like AOT, ACT, etc.
  • Clinical partnerships and referrals within the system, to other Gotham sites.
  • Participate in discharge planning and include referrals to alternative levels of care.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with primary care and other medical specialists to provide clinical guidance and access to care.
  • Participate in and conduct clinical tier reviews, as per policy.
  • Provide supervisory oversight to clinical team members, including Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Psychologists.

Performance Improvement, Quality Assurance and Risk Management

  • Participate in performance, quality assurance, and management projects.
  • May participate in collaborative case conferences, team meetings, and high-risk patient committees for review of quality of care and guidance towards best practices.
  • May participate in incident review committees and Root Cause Analysis committees.
  • Responsible for submitting, reporting, and reviewing incidents as indicated by policy.
  • Participate in utilization review and management.
  • Maintain focus on key strategic priorities including patient experience, access to care, increased market share, and improving financial stability.

Regulatory Activities

  • Assist in the preparation for surveys.
  • Maintain awareness of the standards for certification by the various regulatory agencies.

Qualifications

  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in Psychiatry
  • Active, unrestricted NYS License
  • Active DEA Waiver
  • Active X-Waiver preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Familiarity with high-risk patients and cultural sensitivity in community settings

Wages and Benefits

Annual Base Salary: $267,900* (board eligible); $278,200* (board certified) based on 40-hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $398,690** (board eligible) and $410,020** (board certified) , which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per diem hours, and other factors as set forth below:

  • Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per diem hours worked per week is $104,000.
  • 401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits):
    • Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
    • After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.
