Position Summary

The Chief Psychiatrist provides diagnostic evaluation and treatment to patients and psychiatric consultation. Clinical direction, supervision and training of site staff are core responsibilities. The psychiatrist approves, signs and monitors treatment plans and creates discharge plans to ensure appropriate follow‑up.

Essential Functions

• On‑site psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment of referred inmates.
• Written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course.
• Inpatient psychiatric services, staffing, treatment planning and review.
• General population referral services for regular psychiatric/behavioral health follow‑up.
• Transfer of inmates to external Behavioral Health facilities, including work‑ups and court testimony as needed.
• Regular staffing for and contact with the Behavioral Health Unit staff; discussion of problem cases and medication monitoring.
• Medication management for all admitted inmates.
• Individual and group therapy as appropriate.
• Approval of treatment plans, admissions and discharges into the Behavioral Health Unit.
• In‑service education for site staff.
• Attendance at required trainings and meetings.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of medical school with completed psychiatric residency.
• Licensed to practice in Tennessee.
• Current DEA number.
