Role
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner coordinates psychiatric services with the Behavioral Health Director and Psychiatrist and provides direct services to patients with mental health issues, substance abuse disorders, and dual diagnoses. Duties include evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric conditions, issuance of prescriptions, and maintenance of all clients on psychotropic medication. The role assumes a leadership position in case conferences and in-service training of staff, participates in peer and utilization reviews, and provides psychiatric consultation to primary care providers.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Participating in diagnostic formulations and development of treatment plans for patients.
- Actively collaborating with the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) care teams and Patient care teams.
- Precepting students/interns as needed.
- Completing appropriate documentation and submitting charges in a timely manner.
- Serving on the Utilization Review Committee at our Health Centers.
Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing.
- Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with current MA license or ability to obtain one.
- Current BLS Certification required.
- Current MCSR and DEA registration or ability to obtain.
- Five years of experience prescribing psychotropic medication to adult psychiatric patients; experience with patients under 18 preferred.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in addiction treatment in an outpatient setting, with prescribing and treating patients with SUD.
