Bennington College seeks to hire a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to provide trauma-informed care, clinical assessment, and psychiatric medication management for students experiencing personal, developmental, and/or psychological problems, including those seeking personal growth and development. This position will report to the Director of Health Services and work in close partnership with the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, as part of a collaborating team to support overall health and wellness operations.

This position offers up to 10 hours per week while the College term is in session (~32 weeks/year), working roughly 320 hours a year in total. A majority of the work is performed in a clinical office setting, requiring an on-campus arrangement; partial hybrid work arrangements may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct psychiatric services to Bennington students, including medication assessments, evaluations, consultation, and ongoing medication management.
  • Educates and instructs patients on preventive care, medical/psychiatric issues, and the use of prescribed medical treatments.
  • Serves as a resource and clinical consultant for other CAPS and complementary care for the Health Services medical team as appropriate.
  • Maintains patient records according to office protocols and ethical standards.
  • Be respectful and responsive to differences in the service of building a community that promotes student and employee success and community cohesiveness.

Qualifications

  • A Master’s in nursing or Doctoral (DNP) degree in the healthcare field is required.
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license required in the State of Vermont, or ability to obtain Vermont license within six months of hire.
  • Current DEA certificate required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness, multicultural competencies, and collegiate mental health; preferred experience of working within a higher education setting and/or with young adults.
  • Candidates must possess strong clinical skills and experience in handling crisis situations and demonstrate a willingness to assess and respond to mental health and behavioral crises.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required and the ability to work collaboratively with the clinical and interdisciplinary team.
  • Technological aptitude, including familiarity with electronic medical record systems, clinical documentation, and/or telehealth platforms software, is preferred.

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay starts at $90.
