As a seasonal team member, you'll enjoy winters off to travel, hunt, fish, or pursue the activities you love—while still keeping your benefits all year long.This position is responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities of project in asphalt paving, grading, milling, and concrete production.DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job) An asterisk (*) indicates essential job functions that cannot be modified in order to fulfill the job requirements.Gravel Base:Communicate gravel/base crew needs with dispatchCommunicate needs with plantWork with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projectsComplete quality gravel/base jobs within specificationsComplete necessary paperworkDeliver samples to labMilling:Communicate crew needs with dispatchCommunicate needs with plantWork with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projectsComplete quality gravel/base jobs within specificationsPaving:Communicate paving crew needs with dispatch - Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of driversCommunicate needs to plantWork with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projectsProduce quality asphalt product within specificationsTour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment.Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance withMeasure distances from reference points to locate boundaries of constructionDirects work crews engaged in operation of vehicles andVerifies curvature of graded surface using hand level.Supervise bituminous paving crews, aggregate production crews or crews engaged in operating machines to tamp, roll and smooth surface for subgrade of highway.All:Coach employeesCommunicate needed information to employeesAssist new employeesApprove and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information dailyAlways work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, andPerform other duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (types and extent of knowledge, skills or abilities an incumbent must possess to complete the job responsibilities satisfactorily)Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with people under high stress situations.Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)Over 2 years up to and including 4 years from post high school, work, military, institutional or vocational environmentMinimum 3 years experience in product line and supervisory roleAbility to provide and maintain proper licensure, medical card and acceptable driving record.PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (preferred requirements i.e. certifications, software use, etc.)Paving Supervisor experience preferredCDL preferredCOMPENSATION:$2,600 TO $3,000 per weekBENEFITS:Medical, Dental, & Vision InsuranceHealth Savings and Flexible Spending Accounts401(k) with Company MatchProfit SharingPaid Time OffPaid Sick Time8 Paid HolidaysCompany Paid Life and AD&D InsuranceShort-term DisabilityEmployee Assistance ProgramYears of Service RecognitionVoluntary Life Insurance for Employees, Spouses, and DependentsCritical Illness PlanAccident Coverage PlanHospital IndemnityADDITIONAL INFORMATION:Knife River is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
