Project ManagerThe Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of construction projects including but not limited to: cost estimates, scheduling, procurement, and logistical coordination. Project Managers are involved with subcontractor/vendor management, and coordinate activities with customers, design and engineering. They have financial performance and compliance responsibilities and must make sure that the project follows all operating guidelines while consistently achieving project objectives.A successful Project Manager must be detail-oriented, innovative, creative and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Project Managers must be able perform under pressure and maintain strict budgets and schedules.
They must be able to mentor and teach other team members as well as maintain relationships with owners, co-workers, vendors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.ResponsibilitiesWork collaboratively with design and engineering teams to ensure projects are designed, procured, and constructed within financial and operating guidelinesDevelop and monitor job progress schedules to ensure that the construction of the project parallels the scheduleReview shop drawings and submittals for compliance with the scope of workIssue and manage required vendor and trade subcontracts and provide clear definitions of their related work responsibilities; review and approve subcontractor and vendor payment requestsPurchase and monitor the delivery of all needed materials for the project(s) to ensure optimum prices, quality, and conformance to specificationsVisit jobsites weekly (If logistically possible) to review progress and quality of work; conduct subsequent jobsite coordinator meetings that cover ongoing or new responsibilities and actions required for the projectAnticipate safety hazards, lead safety incident review meetings, and make sure that safety documentation is maintainedAnticipate project owner / client questions and successfully navigate difficult conversations regarding costs, quality, or schedulesPrepare various reports to successfully manage projects, such as: monthly status updates, analysis, schedules, billings and status reports to stakeholders and managementAssist in other duties as assigned, relevant to the achievement of the position's and team's objectives.QualificationsMust have a minimum of 4 years relevant construction management experience in the industrial arenaBachelor's degree in a related field is preferredAt least 3 years with profit and loss responsibility on multiple projectsMust be proficient with a variety of related computer software applications including MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Project, Word), PDF and estimating and document programsAble to read and interpret construction documentsCandidates must have a high level of emotional intelligence with the ability to build relationships and work with multiple personality typesProven experience with a variety of contracting methods such as: lump sum, GMP, cost plus construction management, and fee-based constructionMust demonstrate a working knowledge of budgeting and forecasting, and related reports and recordsMust possess a valid drivers license and a satisfactory driving record in accordance to Fortis policy.Physical RequirementsWork is performed on an active construction site. Role requires standing or walking for long periods of time. Utilize standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing.
