Project Manager/Project Architect (K-12 Education)Location: Memphis, TN 38002Practice: ArchitectureAccountable to: Education Market Leader/Director of ArchitectureStatus: Full-time, Regular, ExemptThe salary range would be $100k-135K Annual BaseSupervisory: YesTarget Time in Office: 70% In / 30% OutRole DescriptionThe K-12 Education Project Manager/Project Architect will be an integral part of the A2H K-12 Education senior leadership team and must have the vision and attitude to help lead our K-12 Education Market to develop and win business, manage and deliver projects, develop staff, and respond to specifically to client needs in the education industry. The position will support the company's strategic education market initiatives, provide education design focused thought leadership, and help grow the firm's presence within the community.The K-12 Education Project Manager/Project Architect will work collaboratively to provide project leadership on education projects in concert with A2H design philosophies and for the overall management of multiple projects.The K-12 Education Project Manager/Project Architect requires an individual with strong character, strategic vision, self-motivation, nimble technical capability, adept team leadership and collaboration skill, and solid relationships and community standing in the K-12 Education market.The K-12 Education Project Manager/Project Architect will need to collaborate directly with team members across A2H offices, while effectively partnering with the Education Market Leader, practice leaders/discipline directors, and project architectural/engineering team members on all efforts.Summary of ResponsibilitiesPromotes and engages the firm's mission, vision, and goals through project leadership.Focus on K-12 Education Projects of all sizes and complexities.Manage all aspects of complex and architecturally demanding projects ranging from small to midsize, from conception stage through construction and completion.Responsible for developing project work plans with the project team for project success, making sure the project team meets quality, schedule, contractual, and budget goals.Serve as the primary client liaison to bring the schedule, budgets, and scope of work to completion and the client's satisfaction.Estimate fees, determine scopes of work, prepare proposals and write contracts.Provide expert input in marketing, contractual, design and production meetings.Responsible for the quality, schedule, and budget for design activities.Actively manage client budgets, schedules, and programs; project communications and documentation; office administrative tasks; and project team assignments.Establish and sustain client relations, participate in assessing and procurement of consultants, and collaborate with governmental agencies.Observe project performance and coordinate workload through the entire project to complete documents on schedule.Strengthen our market reputation and image through thought leadership that is based on value proposition and a differentiated point of view.CulturePromotes a culture of design and encourages dialogue by creating and supporting initiatives in the practice and community.Develops and contributes to the design culture of the practice.Serves as an office-wide resource providing guidance on K-12 education design and similar complex issues.Fosters an inclusive culture of respect and collaboration.Participates in employee recruitment and interviewing process for K-12 education team.Actively mentor staff in their growth in the profession and the K-12 education market.Ensures the team works together to achieve set goals and targets.Participates in professional organizations.DesignParticipates with Architecture Practice leadership to develop architectural standards for K-12 education projects.Familiar with the following Facility Guidelines Institute (FGI) Guidelines: Guidelines for Design and Construction of K-12 Education, Guidelines for Design and Construction of School Facilities, and Guidelines for Design and Construction of Education Facilities.Participates in the process of transforming the program into design solutions that respond to present client expectations.Collaborates with design teams to ensure the design intent is clearly communicated.Leads coordination efforts with all disciplines that support the overall design intent.Assist with design details with an understanding of advances in building materials and construction methods that support the overall design intent.Participates in editing specifications and researching construction products.Monitors the organization and creation of the project documentation in a concise integrated and effective design solution.May participate in marketing, client, and owner presentations and graphic materials.OperationsManages the team's implementation of the work plan.Directs team members and others in the application of architectural standards and guidelines.Provides project leadership and coordination of design drawings.Leads effort for coordination with government agencies related to building design.Participates with Architecture Practice leadership to develop architectural standards.Leads effort for code analysis including, building codes, zoning and planning requirements.Lead a team of designers and technical staff, being responsible for the coordination of all project administrative and technical efforts to ensure the most efficient and cost-effective execution of assigned projects.Implements the practice standards for construction documentation.Conducts quality control reviews of design documents.Assist in the bidding and contractor selection process.Assists with construction administration duties during Construction Administration phase of the project.Make on-site visits to check on project status.Coordinate with construction representatives.Works closely with Design Architects, Project Architects, Engineers, Owners and others during design and construction phases.QualificationsLicensed Architect with 15+ years of professional experience in architecture.Bachelor of Architecture or Master of Architecture degree from NCARB accredited school.Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Problem solving skills, attention to detail, and motivation to learn.Collaborative and professional work ethic.Must possess a thorough knowledge of the professional practice of architecture with emphasis on understanding client expectations.Advanced knowledge of project design process, construction documentation, construction administration.The ability to help define project scope, fees, and mitigate risk management.Ability to direct or coordinate work efforts of technical staff.Demonstrated effectiveness in working in a multi-disciplinary team setting, collaborating, and mentoring and client satisfaction.Strong knowledge of building codes and other engineering disciplines.Thorough knowledge of the entire project delivery process and ability to lead construction administration efforts including leadership with the client, contractors, and internal project team.Experience with sustainable design and benchmarking. LEED accredited preferred.
