Project Engineer – Structural Steel ProgramsLocation: McGregor, Texas Compensation: $100,000 - $115,000 + revenue share (up to $150,000 total compensation potential) Travel: Up to 25% Employment Type: Direct Hire OpportunityAbout the RoleSuperior Skilled Trades is partnered with a company seeking a Project Engineer to support the execution of structural steel and related building scopes for mission-critical infrastructure projects, including large-scale data center developments.This role is responsible for coordinating technical deliverables, tracking project progress, and ensuring alignment between engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction activities. The Project Engineer will play a critical role in maintaining accuracy, consistency, and flow across all project phases in fast-paced, high-performance environments.This position begins with a strong focus on structural steel execution and is structured to expand into broader, multi-discipline responsibilities over time, providing a clear pathway for professional growth into project management and program leadership roles.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain a comprehensive document control system to ensure all drawings, specifications, RFIs, submittals, and revisions are current and properly distributed for design, fabrication, and field execution.Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimating for structural steel components, materials, and labor to support bids, budgets, and change orders.Collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues during design development, fabrication, erection, and commissioning phases.Support project scheduling by analyzing critical path activities, dependencies, and resource requirements to help maintain aggressive hyperscale delivery timelines.Prepare technical documentation including submittals, shop drawing packages, as-built documentation, and project reports in accordance with quality and compliance standards.Track project progress and assist in identifying risks, delays, and coordination issues, providing solutions to maintain schedule and budget alignment.Support continuous improvement initiatives by researching and implementing tools, processes, and technologies that enhance steel engineering and construction execution.Assist in coordination between engineering, procurement, fabrication, and field teams to ensure seamless project delivery.QualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.3+ years of relevant experience supporting structural steel projects in industrial or data center environments.Strong understanding of structural steel detailing, fabrication, erection, and building systems.Experience with document control, RFIs, submittals, quantity takeoffs, and change management processes.Familiarity with scheduling tools, BIM workflows, and construction/project management software (Primavera P6, Procore, or similar).Strong technical writing, analytical, and organizational skills.Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environments.Eagerness and ability to grow into broader project and technical leadership responsibilities.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to support resolution of issues across design, fabrication, and construction phasesHigh attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation and coordination activitiesEffective communication skills with ability to collaborate across engineering, procurement, fabrication, and field teamsAbility to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in fast-paced, high-demand environmentsStrong organizational skills with ability to maintain structured project documentation and workflowsTechnical writing skills for preparation of reports, submittals, and project documentationAbility to work independently and collaboratively in a cross-functional team environmentProactive mindset with willingness to learn and expand technical and project responsibilitiesAdaptability and resilience in dynamic project environments with shifting priorities
