Project EngineerPurpose: To provide project design in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including plans, calculations, specifications, and estimates for entire projects and portions of larger projects, with moderate direction from senior staff.Duties and Responsibilities:General Duties:Uphold and fulfill our client’s mission, purpose statement, strategic plan, and core values.Be an ambassador of our client; internal and external.Uphold our client’s high standard of quality and excellence.Foster and promote a positive work environment and healthy company culture.Follow all our client’s policies and procedures.Follow all engineering group policies and procedures.Represent our client in a professional manner.Meet your chargeability target as set annually by the service council leader.Submit timecards and reimbursables on time.Meet budgets and deadlines.Share profession-related talents with others in the firm.Continued career path development towards license or professional certification.Travel, as necessary, to support the firm and clients.Provide other duties as necessary to support the success of the company.Customarily and regularly exercise discretion and independent judgment, which will affect matters of consequence to the business or our customers.Building Relationships and Networking:Interact with clients and represent our client in a professional and courteous manner, understanding how performance reflects on our client’s reputation and ability to secure return clients.Solicit work with existing client contacts and ensure return business by providing exceptional client service.Communicate effectively and proactively with peers, employees, and management.Project-related:Direct and oversee CAD and design work of junior staff.Provide project design (e.g. specifications, calculations, processing, plans, estimates) for an entire small project or a portion of a larger project and producing accurate CAD that meets appearance and CAD standards.Manage smaller projects under supervisor of project manager.Coordinate with client, under direction of project manager.Learn the scope and budget available for the tasks assigned and produce work within those constraints.Assist with preparation of proposals and budgets.Oversee overall project budget for managed projects.Assist in the preparation of task budgets within a proposal, under the direction of a project manager.Visit project sites (occasionally) for initial site visit and to confirm design issues, monitor construction, etc.Mentoring and Training Staff:Monitor performance of junior staff in staying within scope and budget.Prepare the report and direct the activities of junior staff in gathering data.Minimum Qualifications:Education and Experience:Required: Professional Degree(s) Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.Years of Professional Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience in engineering.Professional Knowledge Current knowledge of professional codes, laws, computer applications, and trends.Licensing and Certification:Required: California Professional Engineer’s license.Valid California driver’s license.Ability to drive a vehicle for company business and to comply with our client’s Motor Vehicle Policy.Knowledge, Abilities, and Skill:Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence to clients and agencies.Ability to speak effectively before clients and coworkers.Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Ability to do job estimating.Ability to work in a team setting.Excellent customer/client service skills and multi-tasking abilities.Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel).Strong in AutoCAD Civil 3D.Physical Demands:Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:Requires ability to travel.Requires ability to work in all outdoor and weather conditions.Requires use of fingers, hands, and arms to handle office materials.Requires talking and hearing.Requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting.Requires color vision, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust visual focus.Requires considerable time spent in front of computer screens.Requires the ability to work in environment with a moderate noise level.Requires the ability to read typed and hand-written reports.Occasionally requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.Occasionally requires lifting or moving up to 25 pounds.Occasionally requires exposure to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and/or risk of radiation and vibration.
