Position Overview: Hamilton Construction is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Project Engineer Intern to join our team. This internship will provide valuable hands-on experience in the heavy civil construction industry, with a focus on bridge, highway interchange, and rail infrastructure projects. The intern will have the opportunity to support various aspects of project management, including estimating, scheduling, safety enforcement, field drawings, and project reporting. This position offers a unique opportunity to work closely with experienced professionals and gain exposure to real-world construction challenges in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
* Assist with material quantity takeoffs for ordering, purchasing, and estimating
* Support the scheduling of crew activities and subcontractors
* Help maintain records of costs, progress, materials, and equipment
* Assist in enforcing and implementing safety protocols on-site
* Aid in preparing project reports for traffic control, erosion control, pollution control, etc.
* Participate in problem-solving using engineering practices
* Support the creation of field drawings & calculations of elevations, stations, and offsets from contract plans
* Assist with basic surveying activities to establish lines and elevations in the field
* Help manage the shop drawing and submittal process for owners/agencies
* Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field foremen to support project success
Requirements:
* Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline
* Interest in gaining hands-on experience in heavy civil construction
* Strong desire to learn and apply knowledge in a practical setting
* Ability to work effectively in a team environment
* Basic understanding of field operations and construction processes (preferred)
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (AutoCAD, P6, and Viewpoint knowledge a plus)
* Ability to work in a variety of environments and climates
* Valid driver's license
* This is a Safety-Sensitive Position, where impairment while working presents a substantial risk of serious injury or death.
