Job Overview
Title: Project Director
Reports To: Regional Director
Location: San Luis Obispo County, CA
Employment Type: Full‑Time, Exempt Employee
Work Setting: 100% onsite
Responsibilities
- Serves as primary local contact and contract liaison with the funding source
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and adherence to policies, procedures, and program monitoring
- Focus on expenditure rates, ensuring all items are on track without disallowed costs, driving metrics and performance, and providing coaching to front‑line staff
- Oversee and ensure timely and accurate weekly tracking of key contract data elements
- Coordinate planning and implementation of policies and procedures for continuous improvement and customer satisfaction
- Lead high‑performing team members to execute program initiatives while supporting employee growth
- Maintain timely responsiveness to the funder and ensure clear, consistent communication across all project channels
- Responsible for daily programmatic operations
- Cultivate and maintain community‑based relationships while actively pursuing new partnerships to enhance program reach and services
- Conduct regular coaching sessions and annual performance evaluations of the team
- Approach each day and task with a solutions‑oriented and responsive mindset
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 3+ years of experience in operational leadership and management
- 3+ years of demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic team environment with strong communication and interpersonal skills
- 2+ years of experience with computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Drive)
- Strong emotional intelligence and ability to lead a team with diverse working styles
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining confidentiality and handling personnel matters with sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy
- Sharp attention to detail with exceptional organizational, analytical, research, and critical thinking skills
- Exceptional time‑management skills to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- A Valid Driver’s License
- Experience and knowledge of WIOA and other workforce development contracts/programs
Additional Skills/Knowledge
- Master’s or MBA degree
- Proven ability to provide strategic oversight of fiscal responsibility, ensuring accurate expenditure rates and achievement of performance metrics
- In‑depth knowledge of leading program compliance and maintaining quality integrity across all workforce development functions and contract requirements
Salary and Benefits
$88,000 – $91,500 per year (commensurate with education and experience). Career TEAM offers a competitive benefits package including healthcare, dental, and personal/vacation time.
Travel
Travel is primarily limited to necessary trips within San Luis Obispo County to support project operations and partnerships. All travel outside the county must be approved by the Regional Director.
