Gryphon Oakwood is currently partnered with a leading Mechanical Design-Build firm seeking an experienced Project Director to join its Project Management team in San Antonio, TX .

Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary client interface and single point of accountability on select complex engineering projects.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients while identifying opportunities for additional business.
- Lead project planning, execution, and delivery, including scope, budget, schedule, staffing, risk management, and overall project performance.
- Direct multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensure alignment with corporate design standards and project requirements.
- Lead proposal development, project work plans, scope definitions, and project execution strategies.
- Monitor project profitability, financial performance, invoicing, change orders, and monthly reporting, implementing corrective measures when required.
- Provide technical oversight across engineering disciplines and ensure effective integration of design and construction activities.
- Review and approve project documentation, calculations, specifications, drawings, and other technical deliverables.
- Lead quality control reviews and ensure compliance with contractual requirements, corporate standards, safety procedures, and quality management processes.
- Ensure effective use of BIM and digital collaboration platforms throughout project delivery.
- Coach, mentor, and develop project managers, engineers, and junior staff to support individual and team performance.
- Champion Lean principles and continuous improvement initiatives, including waste reduction, process optimization, daily huddles, Last Planner scheduling, and Target Value Design.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as A3, Fishbone, 5 Whys, PDCA, and 5S to improve project execution and team performance.
- Conduct Gemba walks and engage directly with project teams to identify workflow improvements and opportunities to eliminate waste.
- Participate in strategic planning, leadership initiatives, and cross-functional corporate programs.
- Support the adoption of innovative technologies and digital tools to improve project delivery and collaboration.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering design and project management, with experience leading complex multidisciplinary projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Architecture required.
- Strong knowledge of engineering design codes, standards, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery practices.
- Demonstrated experience managing BIM-based projects, with Revit proficiency strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Lean Design & Construction and/or SCRUM methodology, with practical experience applying continuous improvement principles preferred.
- Strong business acumen, including project financial management, profitability tracking, change management, invoicing, and client accountability.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and mentoring project managers, engineers, and junior professionals.
- Strong client-facing, communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Project, Planner, Excel, Word, SharePoint, Power BI, Bluebeam, Revizto, Trimble WinEst, and Deltek Ajera ERP.
- Ability to review and interpret engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and other technical project documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to build productive, long-term relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal project teams.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required.
