Accountant PositionWe're seeking an accountant to join a well-established mechanical and plumbing contractor based in Hampton, NJ. This role supports day-to-day accounting operations across a steady pipeline of commercial HVAC, plumbing, and service work, working closely with both finance and operations.This is a great fit for someone with construction or contractor accounting experience who has a strong foundation in general accounting (GL, AP/AR, reconciliations), and enjoys being involved in project-related financials without being siloed into a pure project accounting role.Key Responsibilities• Support full-cycle accounting including general ledger, journal entries, and month-end close• Assist with job cost tracking, cost allocations, and project-level financial reporting• Prepare and process AIA/progress billing, time & materials billing, and invoicing• Manage accounts payable and receivable, including vendor invoices and collections• Reconcile bank statements, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts• Maintain and update WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and cost reporting• Assist with payroll coordination, job costing integration, and labor tracking• Support subcontractor compliance (lien waivers, insurance tracking, 1099s)• Help with financial reporting, audit preparation, and internal documentation• Collaborate with project managers and leadership on budgets, cost tracking, and financial visibilityQualifications• 3-6+ years of accounting experience (construction, contractor, or similar environment strongly preferred)• Strong understanding of general accounting (GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, month-end close)• Exposure to job costing, WIP schedules, and/or project-based accounting• Experience with AIA billing, progress billing, or construction invoicing is a plus• Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliations, reporting)• Experience with QuickBooks, Sage (100/300), Viewpoint, Foundation, or Procore preferred• Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines• Comfortable working cross-functionally with operations and project teams• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferredCompensation & Benefits• Competitive salary based on experience• Medical, dental, and vision benefits• 401(k) with employer match• Paid time off and holidays• Stable backlog of local work with long-term growth potential
