The program promotes food security by helping individuals overcome eligibility and access challenges.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesBe able to travel between multiple Food Pantry sites to assist with distribution.Provide general outreach and promotion for program (outdoor and indoor)Provide office support including clerical, filing, faxing, scanning, typing, photocopying and sorting mailAnswer telephones and offer other office support, when necessaryReport to, and meet with, supervisor on a weekly basis or as determinedPerform additional duties as assignedProgram Specific ResponsibilitiesBecome knowledgeable of every component and service offered by the CMCC Food PantryProvide assistance with all Food Pantry activities, such as lifting boxes, sorting food, assisting with inventory management, and crowd control.Complete data entry for Food Pantry clientsGreet clients and schedule appointments for them to receive servicesProvide Case Assistance and Information and Referral ServicesTrack internal referrals and act as program contact person for inquiries concerning clients.Maintain familiarity with program resources available on and off-site.Complete program reports monthly, or more frequently as required.Maintain familiarity with agency and city resources available to clientsReport to, and meet with, supervisor monthly.Create and distribute informational materials and flyers in targeted (and other) communities in the Bronx to promote services, events, and other special functionsRefer clients to an appropriate program for enrollment servicesFollow up on referrals made on behalf of clients, both internal and externalUpdate bulletin boards and flyers to reflect the monthly calendar of activities.Provide direct services to clients, including intake, engagement, assessment, referral and follow-up.Assist with special projects as requiredPerform additional duties as assigned by manager.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentProficiency in modern business communications including personal computers, laptops, cell phones, tablets, Ipads, electronic mail, voicemail, facsimile and copier equipmentProficiency in English required; proficiency in Bengali, Spanish or French is preferredStrong organizational, interpersonal, and written/verbal communication skills.Driver's License preferredPhysical RequirementsAbility to use a computer for prolonged periods.Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.Ability to stand, walk, or sit for long periods of time.Ability to climb five flights of stairs, if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather, including inclement weather, if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.BronxWorks seeks to build an inclusive organization grounded in respect for differences.
