The Program Navigator for the Digestive Health Services (DHS) Colon Cancer Prevention Program (CCPP) works under general supervision of the Medical Practice Supervisor and is responsible for the coordination of patient referrals to the program. Responsibilities include working incoming referrals, patient scheduling, obtaining patient information, providing the patient with information and instructions related to the procedure, verifying eligibility, and full registration of patients in the electronic medical record (EHR). The Program Navigator will communicate with patients, patient families, department physicians and referring office staff. The Program Navigator ensures an efficient referral process for screening procedures and may visit referring offices to educate office staff of the appropriate referral workflow process when referring patients to the program. The Program Navigator will have administrative duties which include, but are not limited to, electronic medical record documentation, entering screening procedures orders, and obtaining medical clearance.

- Good organizational and follow through skills
- Knowledge of EHR applications and Practice Management applications
- Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems
- Ability to work without direct supervision; take initiative and responsibility
- Maintains knowledge of resources in order to appropriately identify solutions within scope of practice; knowing when to elevate issues through the chain of command
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
Required Experience
Required:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience in a Physician office or in a health care setting
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Preferred:
- Experience in or knowledge of Gastroenterology
- Certificate from Accredited Medical Assistant Program Preferred
