Job Overview – Program Director (Shelter Services)

Compensation: $56/hour

Location: Brooklyn, NY

Schedule: Monday to Friday (In-Office)

TAG MedStaffing is hiring a Program Director (Shelter Services) in Brooklyn, NY for our client, supporting shelter operations, case management services, staff leadership, and program compliance. This role oversees day-to-day service delivery for an adult shelter program while managing staff performance, documentation, and operational priorities. The Program Director will also participate in an after-hours on-call rotation to coordinate responses to critical incidents.

Responsibilities as the Program Director (Shelter Services):

  • Program Leadership: Oversee daily shelter operations, case management services, housing support, and overall program performance.
  • Staff Management: Supervise program staff, provide coaching and performance feedback, and maintain appropriate staffing coverage.
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure services, records, reporting, and operating practices meet applicable shelter program and regulatory requirements.
  • Crisis Management: Direct responses to urgent client and operational incidents, including coordinating appropriate action during assigned after-hours on-call coverage.
  • Performance Monitoring: Review program data, documentation, and service outcomes to identify gaps and implement operational improvements.
  • Community Collaboration: Maintain effective relationships with internal teams, government partners, and community providers while supporting client-centered service delivery.

Qualifications for the Program Director (Shelter Services):

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in any field is required.
  • Certification: Ability to complete required shelter operations, CPR/First Aid, confidentiality, trauma-informed care, overdose prevention, and crisis intervention training within 6 months of hire is required.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience working with vulnerable populations and 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience are required.
  • Industry Knowledge: Shelter or supportive housing experience with knowledge of case management, housing services, crisis response, and applicable regulatory requirements is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use case management, documentation, and reporting systems are required.
  • Skills & Attributes: Strong leadership, communication, organization, crisis management, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
