Job Summary:
Provides strategic and operational leadership for multiple non-invasive cardiovascular service lines of the Pediatric Heart Center at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, including the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory, Fetal Cardiovascular Program, and Pediatric Stress/EKG Laboratory. Oversees clinical practice, operations, quality, accreditation, regulatory compliance, and resource management to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Directs multidisciplinary teams, establishing operational strategies, implementing new programs and service standards, and ensuring effective management of staffing, fiscal, and material resources. Collaborates with physician and administrative leadership to optimize patient access, coordinate clinical operations, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement across the continuum of care.

Department Description
The Pediatric Non-Invasive labs at UCSF consist of the Pediatric Echocardiography, Fetal Cardiovascular Program, and Pediatric Cardiovascular Stress and EKG.

The non-invasive cardiovascular testing labs/departments provide a full spectrum of diagnostic testing to inpatient, outpatient and outreach clinic populations across multiple sites within UCSF Health, including our San Francisco and Oakland Hospitals. The teams supporting these sites include Advanced Practice Providers, Cardiovascular Technologists, Sonographers, Hospital Lab Technicians, as well as various other support staff.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Five (5) years’ work experience as a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer in a dedicated pediatric Echo Lab
  • Five (5) years’ of prior management/supervisory experience in a dedicated pediatric Echo Lab
  • In-depth clinical practice and applied background in one or more cardiovascular and service areas
  • Advanced knowledge of industry trends
  • Strong knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes
  • Knowledge of relevant external regulations
  • Strong leadership, fiscal, and operational management skills
  • Advanced interpersonal skills to develop and maintain professional relationships with clinical and professional staff at all levels, resolve conflict and foster collaboration and coordinate cardiovascular services across functions
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to evaluate complex issues and resolve problems
  • Ability to manage conflict and lead others to achieve objectives
  • Ability to collaborate with senior management on setting objectives
  • Proven ability to set goals and implement initiatives meeting deadlines
  • Ability to actively listen. Advanced communication skills to influence and motivate others
  • Ability to work collaboratively soliciting and incorporating the ideas of others
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively to meet deadlines in a complex, challenging environment
  • Ability to organize assigned staff and unit operations in an efficient and effective manner
  • Skills to coordinate schedules of the patient, doctor, sonographers, and nurse to serve the patient in a timely manner
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with physicians, researchers, sonographers, and other clinical staff
  • Interpersonal skills to work with a variety of patient populations and show sensitivity

Preferred Qualifications
Five (5) years of clinical work experience in an academic setting

  • Master’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in budget management
  • Demonstrated ability to improve the efficiency and delivery of cardiovascular processes and procedures while maintaining patient care standards and regulatory compliance
