Position Description

Are you ready to lead a dedicated team of mental health professionals while driving high-quality care for individuals served? As Program Director , you will supervise, direct, and coordinate all program activities, ensuring services meet policies, regulations, and accreditation standards. You’ll play a key role in hiring, training, coaching, and supporting staff, while shaping the program’s success and fostering professional growth across your team.

What You’ll Do

• Oversee day-to-day program operations, ensuring compliance with policies, regulations, and accreditation standards.
• Supervise, mentor, and develop staff through training, coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development.
• Manage recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing evaluation of employees.
• Ensure proper staffing ratios, program compliance, and timely reporting.
• Provide oversight for admissions, discharges, and program activities.
• Foster collaboration across departments to achieve shared objectives and program goals.

What We’re Looking For

Education:

• Master’s degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Psychology, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or related field (required).

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years as a master’s-level mental health professional with skills to manage and oversee department objectives (required).
• At least 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience (required).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (required).

Licenses/Certifications:

• State licensure (LCSW, LMFT, LPCC, MFCC, or Clinical Psychologist) (preferred) or obtain within 6 months of employment (required if not licensed).

Role Description

The Program Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Sacramento, CA, responsible for overseeing daily operations of behavioral health and residential treatment programs. This role manages multidisciplinary teams, ensures high-quality clinical and support services, and maintains compliance with regulatory, contractual, and accreditation standards. The Program Director develops and implements program policies and procedures, monitors performance metrics, and drives continuous improvement in client care, safety, and outcomes. Day-to-day responsibilities include supervising staff, coordinating care with internal and external partners, managing budgets and resources, and preparing reports for organizational and governmental stakeholders. The role also involves fostering a recovery-focused environment, supporting staff development, and engaging with community partners to strengthen service delivery.

Qualifications

• Leadership and management skills, including team supervision, performance management, and staff development.
• Program operations skills, such as strategic planning, policy implementation, budget oversight, and resource allocation.
• Clinical and behavioral health knowledge related to mental health, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions.
• Compliance and quality assurance skills, including familiarity with regulatory standards, accreditation requirements, and risk management.
• Communication and collaboration skills for working effectively with multidisciplinary teams, public entities, and community partners.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
• Experience in inpatient behavioral health, residential treatment, or community-based mental health services preferred.
• Master’s degree in psychology, social work, counseling, nursing, healthcare administration, or a related field preferred; relevant licensure or certification is an asset.
• Proficiency with electronic health records, reporting tools, and basic office software.
• Commitment to person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented care.
