Summary
Responsible for the operations of the Kathrine G. McGovern Collegeof the Arts academic advising and student-success program and forassigned college-level academic program administration. Incollaboration with the Executive Director for Student Success,directs advising and student support services, oversees staff andprojects, develops short- and long-term goals, and advisesstudents. Serves as a college liaison for university admissions,orientation, academic policy, undergraduate and graduate curriculumproposals, and catalog updates.
Job Duties
- 1. Oversees daily academic advising and student-support operationsfor the Office of Student Success and serves as director of theoffice when the Executive Director for Student Success isunavailable.
- 2. Advises a defined caseload of students regarding degreerequirements, academic planning, policies, progress, andcompletion; provides career guidance and coordinates the resolutionof complex or escalated student concerns.
- 3. Directs the activities of advising staff and student workers,establishes work priorities and service expectations, trainsadvisors, maintains training resources, evaluates performance, andprovides input on personnel matters.
- 4. Collaborates with the Executive Director for Student Success todevelop and implement policies, procedures, strategic plans,projects, and service improvements supporting student success;participates in budget and resource planning for assignedprograms.
- 5. Serves as the college liaison for university admissions,orientation, and academic policy, communicating requirements andcoordinating implementation with faculty, staff, students, anduniversity offices.
- 6. Guides faculty and departmental graduate directors in preparingundergraduate and graduate academic proposals; reviews andfacilitates proposals through school and college curriculumcommittees and subsequent university approval processes.
- 7. Reviews, coordinates, and submits college catalog updates forundergraduate and graduate programs, ensuring that programrequirements, policies, and curricular information are accurate andconsistent with approved actions.
- 8. In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Operations,coordinate and manage the annual curricular process, enforcecurricular deadlines with college partners, and establishsemester-based college curriculum committee meetings.
- 9. Maintains regular communication with faculty, departmentalcurriculum directors, academic units, and the college AcademicAffairs office regarding undergraduate and graduate policies,curricula, degree requirements, and implementation needs.
- 10. Performs high-level academic administrative functions,including reviewing petitions and exceptions, processing graduationapplications, maintaining and auditing student records, andentering course permissions and enrollment-limit overrides.
- 11. Implements and monitors student-success and academic-programinitiatives, evaluates policies and processes, recommendsimprovements, represents the office and college to internal andexternal constituents, and serves on university committees asassigned.
- 12. Performs other job-related duties as required.
Job Requirements
Education
Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practicalaspects of an analytical, technical, or professional discipline, orthe basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline.Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal,directly job-related four-year degree from a college or universityor an equivalent in-depth specialized training program directlyrelated to the work being performed.
Preferred: Graduate-level degree in a relevant or relatedfield.
Experience
Requires a minimum of five years of direct job-relatedexperience.
Preferred: Five years of directly job-related experience workingwith creative and performing arts students in an academic advisingor academic administration capacity.
Experience will be considered in lieu ofeducation. Education will be considered in lieu ofexperience.MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of boththeoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical orprofessional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than oneprofessional discipline.
