Position Summary

Butterfly Support Services is seeking an experienced and clinically licensed Program Director to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for our behavioral health programs.

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing day-to-day program operations, clinical and support staff, service delivery, quality assurance, regulatory and payer compliance, staff development, productivity, and program growth.

This position requires a leader who can balance clinical quality with operational performance, develop and support high-performing teams, identify problems and implement solutions, and help move the organization forward.


The Program Director will also maintain a small clinical caseload to remain connected to service delivery and support organizational needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Program Management

  • Provide overall leadership, direction, and oversight of assigned behavioral health programs.
  • Oversee daily clinical and administrative operations.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve program effectiveness, service quality, and client outcomes.
  • Monitor program performance through productivity measures, quality indicators, outcome data, and other performance metrics.
  • Ensure programs operate efficiently and in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Participate in strategic planning and organizational growth initiatives.
  • Identify operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, professional, and accountable work environment.
  • Represent Butterfly Support Services professionally within the community.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, interview, hire, onboard, supervise, and retain qualified staff.
  • Provide clinical and administrative supervision, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
  • Conduct individual supervision and team meetings.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor staff workloads.
  • Monitor productivity and documentation expectations.
  • Complete performance evaluations and address performance concerns.
  • Develop and monitor performance improvement plans when necessary.
  • Promote staff accountability while supporting professional growth and retention.
  • Assist with case coverage and operational needs when staffing challenges arise.

Clinical Oversight & Service Delivery

  • Provide clinical leadership and consultation to staff.
  • Oversee assessments, treatment planning, service delivery, documentation, and case progression.
  • Review and approve clinical documentation as required.
  • Monitor documentation for accuracy, quality, medical necessity, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Facilitate clinical case reviews.
  • Support the implementation of evidence-based and person-centered treatment practices.
  • Provide guidance regarding treatment planning, case management, and complex clinical situations.
  • Attend consultation meetings and assist with implementing recommendations.
  • Maintain a small clinical caseload, which may include assessments, treatment planning, therapy, case management, and other services within the individual's professional scope of practice.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, accreditation standards, payer requirements, HIPAA, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Monitor documentation deadlines, accuracy, completeness, and quality.
  • Participate in quality improvement and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Review incident reports and assist with investigations and corrective action planning when appropriate.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, accreditation activities, and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with developing and implementing corrective actions when deficiencies are identified.
  • Promote a culture of ethical practice, confidentiality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Administrative & Financial Responsibilities

  • Review and approve timecards, mileage reimbursements, leave requests, clinical documentation, and other assigned administrative items.
  • Assist with human resources and workforce-management functions.
  • Support efficient office operations and workflow management.
  • Assist with developing and monitoring departmental budgets.
  • Monitor program expenditures, productivity, staffing levels, and operational performance.
  • Prepare reports and analyze program performance data.
  • Use data to identify trends, opportunities, and areas requiring improvement.

Crisis Management & On-Call Support

  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Provide clinical consultation and leadership during urgent or high-risk situations.
  • Support staff with crisis intervention and safety-related concerns.
  • Assist in coordinating appropriate responses to clinical and operational emergencies.

Community Partnerships & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with executive leadership, clinical staff, support staff, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, referral sources, and other partners.
  • Participate in leadership meetings, community initiatives, and organizational activities.
  • Support outreach efforts and opportunities to expand programs and services.

The successful candidate will be able to balance empathy with accountability and understand that strong behavioral health leadership requires both excellent clinical judgment and effective operational management.


Qualifications

  • Current, active Ohio clinical licensure is required: LSW, LISW, LPC, or LPCC.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, Human Services, or a closely related behavioral health field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership or management experience in behavioral health, social services, healthcare, or a related field.
  • Experience supervising multidisciplinary teams.
  • Behavioral health program-management experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical documentation, treatment planning, quality assurance, compliance, and performance improvement.
  • Experience with budgeting, reporting, productivity management, and program operations.
  • Strong leadership and personnel-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong critical-thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong conflict-resolution and staff-coaching skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and use information to make informed operational decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to quickly learn electronic health record (EHR) systems and other technology platforms.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable personal vehicle available for work-related travel.
  • Current automobile insurance meeting applicable state requirements.
