Responsibilities
Patient Care and Communication
- Apply the nursing process to deliver holistic, patient centered care
- Partner with patients and families to develop and achieve care goals
- Communicate clearly with the care team and advocate for appropriate care decisions
- Maintain accurate, thorough documentation that supports continuity of care
- Demonstrate critical thinking across clinical, social, safety, and psychosocial needs
- Deliver compassionate care that enhances the patient experience
Clinical Leadership and Professional Practice
- Lead and support team initiatives that enhance patient care and the work environment
- Participate in shared governance and hospital wide councils
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, assessment, and analytical skills
Relationship Based Care and Team Collaboration
- Promote a healthy, respectful workplace culture
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across the care team
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and address workplace concerns appropriately
- Balance priorities through effective delegation and time management
Quality Improvement and Evidence Based Practice
- Identify and support opportunities to improve clinical quality and workplace practices
- Incorporate evidence based practice into daily work
- Participate in or lead initiatives that drive innovation and improve outcomes
Education and Professional Development
- Precept and mentor students, graduate nurses, and new hires
- Identify learning opportunities to improve care and team performance
- Seek and apply feedback to support continuous improvement
- Promote ongoing learning through education, research sharing, and unit-based development activities
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience
- BSN preferred
- UPMC approved nursing certification required
- Certification not required with MSN or DNP
- Master’s in related field may substitute if BSN is held
- Completion of one My Nursing Career Ladder contribution required
- Current PA RN licensure or multistate license
- BLS or CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days
Skills And Requirements
- Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lead application of the nursing process
- Meets or exceeds “Solid” performance rating to obtain and maintain role
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, lift, and position patients
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required
