Responsibilities

Patient Care and Communication

• Apply the nursing process to deliver holistic, patient centered care
• Partner with patients and families to develop and achieve care goals
• Communicate clearly with the care team and advocate for appropriate care decisions
• Maintain accurate, thorough documentation that supports continuity of care
• Demonstrate critical thinking across clinical, social, safety, and psychosocial needs
• Deliver compassionate care that enhances the patient experience

Clinical Leadership and Professional Practice

• Lead and support team initiatives that enhance patient care and the work environment
• Participate in shared governance and hospital wide councils
• Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, assessment, and analytical skills

Relationship Based Care and Team Collaboration

• Promote a healthy, respectful workplace culture
• Build strong, collaborative relationships across the care team
• Demonstrate cultural awareness and address workplace concerns appropriately
• Balance priorities through effective delegation and time management

Quality Improvement and Evidence Based Practice

• Identify and support opportunities to improve clinical quality and workplace practices
• Incorporate evidence based practice into daily work
• Participate in or lead initiatives that drive innovation and improve outcomes

Education and Professional Development

• Precept and mentor students, graduate nurses, and new hires
• Identify learning opportunities to improve care and team performance
• Seek and apply feedback to support continuous improvement
• Promote ongoing learning through education, research sharing, and unit-based development activities

• Minimum 3 years of RN experience
• BSN preferred
• UPMC approved nursing certification required
• Certification not required with MSN or DNP
• Master’s in related field may substitute if BSN is held
• Completion of one My Nursing Career Ladder contribution required
• Current PA RN licensure or multistate license
• BLS or CPR certification (AHA) required within 30 days

Skills And Requirements

• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to lead application of the nursing process
• Meets or exceeds “Solid” performance rating to obtain and maintain role

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, lift, and position patients
• Manual dexterity and visual acuity required
