Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub of the University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of allstudents. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments andprograms in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences,CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. The InfoGraphics Lab is a hybrid research and practice centerwithin the College of Arts and Sciences that for 35 years has beena recognized leader in cartographic design, dynamic mapping, mobileapplication development, spatial data analysis, visualization, andGIS. The Lab conducts interdisciplinary collaborative projects withresearch partners on campus at the UO, with state agencies, andother universities. Consisting of 10-15 employees includingfaculty, undergraduate, and graduate students, the Lab pridesitself on providing experiential learning opportunities to studentswho contribute to real-world projects that make a positive impacton science and humanity.

Position Summary

The University of Oregon InfoGraphics Lab seeks to establish a poolof qualified candidates for Pro Tem Research positions. Pro TemResearchers in the InfoGraphics Lab contribute to interdisciplinaryresearch at the intersection of cartography, data visualization,and spatial analysis. Research projects examine questions relatedto space and place across the environmental sciences, socialsciences, and humanities, producing scholarly and public-facingvisualizations that advance research and science communication. Examples of current and past projects can be found at Research positions are funding contingent, part-time, limitedduration appointments, potentially renewable for up to a total ofthree years, based on programmatic need, funding, and performance. Screening of applications will take place as positions becomeavailable and continue until positions are filled.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for Research Assistant (Type B):

• Bachelor's degree in spatial or design field
• Two (2) years' professional experience working with geospatialand/or design technologies

To qualify for Research Assistant (Type C):

• Master's degree in spatial or design field

To qualify for Research Associate or Postdoctoral Scholar:

• Ph.D in spatial, design, or related field

Professional Competencies

• Strong background in design, cartography, data visualization,data wrangling, GIS, programming, and/or web development.
• Ability to think creatively, solve problems, and work well in adiverse, collaborative setting.
• Ability to use software programs that support this work such asEsri's ArcGIS suite, Adobe Creative suite (InDesign, Illustrator,Photoshop), R, and/or Python.
• Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and studentsfrom a variety of diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, andinclusion efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Esri's ArcGIS suite, Adobe Creative suite(InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop), R, Python, and other softwareis highly desired.
• Previous experience in web programming, HTML, CSS, D3, Leaflet,Mapbox.
• Research and teaching experience.
• Strong interest in contributing to the development of the Lab'smission.
