Job Overview

Perform diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment and rotate through diagnostic radiology as assigned. Involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
  • Radiography certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • Current licensure as required by the state where services will be provided:
    • M.D.: Radiographer license through the Maryland Board of Physicians.
    • OH: Radiographer license through the Ohio Board of Radiology.
    • PA: No state license is required.
    • WV: Radiological Technologist or Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic CT License through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
  • Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
  • State criminal background check and Federal background check as required for regulated areas.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience as a computed tomography technologist.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare room, equipment, and materials as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique.
  • Clean and disinfect rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
  • Perform examinations per Physician’s orders and explain procedures to patients.
  • Document variations from protocol due to patient condition or other causes and relay patient history and clinical data to Radiologist.
  • Observe patients and equipment, report any unusual occurrences or changes, and transport/assist patients as needed.
  • Document status and variances in patient chart.
  • Maintain stock supplies, perform general office duties, and ensure proper film labeling.
  • Practice safe radiation exposure and protection, ensuring patient and staff safety.
  • Comply with policy and procedures for department and hospital-wide programs, and participate in patient safety training.
  • Produce diagnostic quality images using CT equipment, judging images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
  • Perform critical procedures under stress during emergency procedures.
  • Perform diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered.
  • Perform diagnostic studies in surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
  • Provide care specific to neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
  • Administer IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per protocol.
  • Utilize PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for radiologist and referring physicians.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned by department manager or lead technologist.

  • Complete annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards (CBLs, trainings, In-services, competency validation).

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping necessary.
  • Must lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying assistance; exerting in excess of 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, or up to 20 pounds constantly.
  • Hearing and visual acuity within normal range.

Working Environment

  • Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, explosive gases, cleaning agents, and disinfectants daily.
  • Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
  • Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of growth and development, and understanding of patient needs and scope of treatment.
  • Understand dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
  • Knowledge of total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on control of pain and other symptoms.
