Overview
The CT Technologist is responsible for patient safety and delivering high quality computed tomography studies. They ensure effective communication with patients, radiologists, and other healthcare team members. The role may include training new technicians or Patient Coordinators.
Responsibilities
- Ensure patient safety, including pre‑screening for contraindications to radiation and contrast injections; use aseptic injection techniques.
- Produce high quality diagnostic CT images.
- Effectively communicate with patients, radiologists, and other customers.
- Train new technologists and/or patient coordinators.
- Troubleshoot the CT scanner, associated equipment, and peripheral devices (e.g., monitors, PACS).
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or equivalent experience preferred.
- Registered Computed Tomography Technologist (ARRT) or certification by NMTCB in Computed Tomography acceptable in lieu of ARRT registry, if allowed by state.
- State license and, if applicable, license in medical imaging.
- CPR certification.
- Active state driver’s license (for technicians performing mid‑day moves).
- Strong customer service, organizational, and multi‑tasking skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications and programs (PACS, monitors).
- Physical ability to sit, stand, walk >50% of time; ability to lift or transfer patients; and to perform stoop, kneel, crawl, or climb as needed.
Physical Requirements
- More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk; repetitive hand/arm/leg movement; see, speak, and hear to communicate with patients.
- Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, balance; carry and lift non‑ambulatory patients from sitting or lying position for transfer or examination.
- Employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients on a mobile unit.
- May be exposed to blood, body fluids, and infectious diseases.
