Private Equity Associate | Washington, DC Area

Our client is a well-established, highly regarded middle market private equity firm with a 25+ year track record and a deep, exclusive focus on the transportation, logistics, supply chain, and distribution sectors — one of the most active and durable deal verticals in the middle market. The firm has been recognized as a Top 50 Middle Market PE firm and invests across buyouts, recapitalizations, carveouts, and growth equity in companies with enterprise values up to $500 million. What sets this firm apart is the depth of its sector specialization — after more than two decades investing exclusively in transportation and logistics, the team brings proprietary relationships, market knowledge, and operating expertise that generalist firms simply cannot match.

The Opportunity

This is a high-ownership Associate seat at a lean, sector-focused firm where your fingerprints will be on real deals from day one. You will work directly alongside senior investors across the full investment lifecycle — from initial sourcing and diligence through execution, portfolio management, and exit — with meaningful responsibility and direct exposure to senior leadership and management teams.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare investment committee materials, develop investment theses, and conduct detailed valuation analyses to support LOI submissions and deal execution
  • Own analysis on new investment opportunities — financial models, returns analyses, market research, and company diligence — from initial screening through IC presentation
  • Manage due diligence processes end-to-end, coordinating with advisors, attorneys, lenders, and management teams while drafting committee materials
  • Develop deep understanding of portfolio companies and monitor their financial performance, operational outlook, and strategic positioning over time
  • Support portfolio company management teams on financial, operational, and M&A initiatives to execute investment theses and drive value creation
  • Manage lender relationships and explore debt financing alternatives to optimize capital structure across new investments and portfolio companies
  • Assist fundraising efforts by building relationships with existing and prospective investors and responding to LP inquiries
  • Create and maintain a deal pipeline database to systematically identify and evaluate new investment opportunities in the firm's target sectors

Who You Are

  • 2–5 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or corporate development with direct deal execution experience
  • Exceptional financial modeling and analytical capabilities across multiple transaction types and valuation methodologies
  • Strong written and oral communication skills — able to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling narratives for IC and management
  • Deep understanding of accounting, finance, and capital structure
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficient in data analytics tools such as Power BI, SQL, Python, or Tableau
  • High attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a results-driven mindset
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of workstreams
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Washington, DC (on-site role); willingness to travel 10–25% for deal sourcing and portfolio company engagement

Preferred Background

  • Experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, distribution, or industrial sectors — either through deal coverage or direct operating exposure
  • Advanced degree or certifications (MBA, CPA, CFA, or related finance specialization)
  • Exposure to corporate development or consulting within a private equity context
  • Familiarity with Power BI, SQL, Python, or Tableau for advanced data analysis and portfolio monitoring
