Description

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Architect Engineer to join our Systems Engineering organization in Melbourne, FL.

The Systems Architect Engineer will develop system architectures, define key capabilities and performance requirements, and design implementation approaches in alignment with customer specifications. Responsibilities include architecture and CONOPS development, functional analysis, trade studies, requirements management, interface definition, and technical solution development using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) methodologies.

Essential Functions

  • Define system architectures.
  • Architecture, CONOPS, and use case development using model-based systems engineering methodologies.
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Execute trade studies to select among multiple potential solutions.
  • Perform systems requirements analysis.
  • Manage requirements lifecycle, including decomposition, allocation, verification, and validation.
  • Maintain foundation in MBSE and architecture development.
  • Communicate technical approaches and findings effectively at technical and program reviews.
  • Apply extensive technical expertise to develop solutions for complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity.

Basic Qualifications

  • Principal level: Bachelor of Science in STEM with 5 years related experience, Master of Science with 3 years, or PhD with 1 year.
  • Senior principal level: Bachelor of Science with 8 years, Master of Science with 6 years, or PhD with 4 years.
  • Must have U.S. Secret clearance or be able to obtain it within a reasonable period.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering with MBSE experience.
  • Foundation in MBSE and architecture development.
  • Applied knowledge of aircraft design.
  • Experience in a military aerospace development environment.
  • Experience with Cameo MagicDraw or other MBSE tools such as Rhapsody, Sparx EA, and Enterprise Architect.
  • Experience developing DODAF view artifacts, especially operational and functional viewpoints.
  • Experience with Agile workflows.
  • Knowledge of configuration management of model-based architecture baselines.
  • Demonstrated communication and technical writing skills.
  • Proven ability to brief technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Salary and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00.

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00.

Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonus, and Long Term Incentives (for VP/Director level). Health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plan, company‑paid holidays, and paid time off (vacation/personal) are also provided.
