Northrop Grumman, Defense Systems, is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Software Engineer to work on the Whisper programs in Stafford, Virginia. The Whisper program is a large antenna‑based RF transmission and receiving network platform. We use command and control software to remotely control multiple systems worldwide.

Responsibilities

Perform software development and maintenance.

Assist with all or part of the following: requirements – application design, code development, testing, code maintenance.

Basic Qualifications

This position is open as a dual level opportunity. Candidates will be considered at a level3 or level4. Based on overall experience, education, years of experience, fit to the position, and interview evaluation, the selected level will be determined.

• Level3: Bachelor’s degree with 5years of experience OR a master’s and 3years’ experience OR a high‑school diploma / equivalent with 9years’ experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Level4: Bachelor’s degree with 8years of experience OR a master’s and 6years’ experience OR a high‑school diploma / equivalent with 12years’ experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
• Work on‑site at Stafford, Virginia.
• Programming experience with languages such as Java, C, Bash, Python.
• Familiar with Windows and RHEL.
• TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
• Prior to start, obtain a (IAT) levelII or higher (e.g., Security+).
• Familiar with Compliance/Vulnerability Monitoring with tools such as Nessus, HBSS and ACAS.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the following technologies: Java Swing; multi‑threaded and distributed Java applications; Java web application servers such as Tomcat or JBoss/Wildfly; relational databases (JDBC, SQL, MySQL); JEE (JDBC, JNI, JNDI, JMS, Servlet/JSP, EJB/JPA); web service experience (e.g., RESTful web services).
• Knowledge of the following: Hycu backup/recovery software or other backup/recovery software; Nutanix virtual environment, or other platforms such as VMware; Elastic Search Stack (ELK).
• Web (browser‑based) GUI front‑end development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, Angular).
• Experience with hardening Linux OS and applications to required configurations (e.g., DISA STIGs).
• Configuration management experience working with software version control tools (e.g., Jira’s Bamboo, Stash, GIT, Subversion).
• Risk Management Framework (RMF).
• Linux and/or Windows system administration experience.

Salary

Primary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 – $171,000.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $142,000.00 – $213,000.00

The above salary range is a general guideline; NorthropGrumman considers many factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
