Position Summary

Advise and train the engineering community on the proper development of quality plans and quality specifications, using Swagelok’s standardized process development methodology. Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard quality engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications. Utilizes project management methods to complete assignments, or to plan, direct, and coordinate activities of functional area as part of a corporate cross-functional project. Independently develops clear and specific objectives for given assignments that may require the investigation of several alternative quality solutions. Develops thoughts and ideas into solutions with approval from supervisor and provides guidance to co‑ops, contract engineers, technicians and other engineers. Provides steering and influence for the overall Swagelok quality planning strategy. Effectively leads moderate to large projects. Trains other quality engineers and technicians in the use of sound quality engineering practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advise and train the engineering community on product quality assurance plans and the development/implementation of process control plans.
  • Provide guidance and training on statistical capability studies to ensure compliance of products, processes and measurement systems to stated quality goals.
  • Recommend best practices for designing and acquiring gauges, measurement systems, and data collection systems.
  • Provide training and guidance in product quality requirements, process control tools, statistical methods, SPC, gage design, and problem solving to appropriate personnel.
  • Create or modify corporate level quality related documents via DCN system.
  • Consult and participate in internal, customer, or vendor audits, as necessary.
  • Complete periodic reporting of project status, as required.
  • Partner with service group quality teams on best practices for process improvements to proactively identify quality risks and reduce the risk of external escapements.
  • Provide consultation for PQP events. This includes defining customer requirements, completing SDA’s, completing process analyses, conducting process and gage studies, and conducting DMA’s.
  • Train others in use of quality planning tools.
  • Provide coaching and steering to quality engineers supporting technical peer reviews.
  • Provide corporate wide communication and training on improvements to quality planning essentials.
  • Advise support groups on development of improved gauging methods, improved machine capability, and adjusted product requirements.
  • Facilitate and/or lead quality knowledge sharing community.
  • Communicates progress through management updates and team meetings.
  • Assess key performance indicators and analyze underlying data to identify opportunities for improvement and advise leaders on appropriate decisions.
  • Provides on‑going education to business for disciplined problem‑solving methodology.
  • Follows up on corrective action solutions and verifies effectiveness, as necessary.
  • Provides training and subject matter expertise for gauge R&Rs.
  • Participate in department meetings to provide input into the design and implementation of product quality planning systems and procedures.
  • Provide guidance and training on testing parameters and process sample size calculations for appropriate functional requirements.
  • Consult on concerns from internal and external suppliers, as necessary, to resolve production problems.
  • Training business on reliability analysis and Weibull data calculations for project and product related issues.
  • Provide input into project contracts.
  • Provide coaching and appropriate feedback to service group quality engineers.
  • Provide input or consultations on the validation phase of new product development.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • 4 year degree in Technical Field
  • Maintains on‑going education in related areas
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing process design and development, quality planning, and/or quality control supervision
  • 6+ months ISO/QS9000 implementation and/or auditing
  • Recognized as a resource to the organization
  • Able to solve complex problems and complete multiple projects
  • Applies proven technology independently
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (including presentation and facilitation skills)
  • Strong computer skills (including data evaluation and statistical process analysis skills)
  • Excellent time management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Engineering or Quality‑related field
  • Advanced (DOE, Six Sigma) problem‑solving experience
  • ASQ CQE Certification
