Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - West Seneca, NY

MissionHires is partnering with a global leader in precision motion control to hire a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer for the Industrial Systems Group. Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, this technical authority will define next‑generation electrohydraulic, electromechanical, and electropneumatic product architectures, lead validation and experimental programs, and mentor engineers. The role sets the technical roadmap for platforms serving flight simulation, oil & gas exploration, and custom industrial precision machinery.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical authority for complex electrohydraulic, electromechanical, and electropneumatic component and system development
• Lead engineering efforts requiring authoritative judgment using standard and nonstandard design techniques
• Define requirements and architecture for next‑generation product platforms in high‑growth industrial and aerospace markets
• Consult with internal and external stakeholders to translate needs into system and component specifications
• Lead trade studies, complex analyses, and conceptual solution validation
• Drive design proposals including effort estimation and technical proposal leadership
• Plan and execute comprehensive experimental development and testing programs to ensure reliability
• Apply advanced modeling, including FEA, CFD, and model‑based design, to guide and validate designs
• Provide technical mentorship, coaching, and professional development to lower‑level engineers
• Operate under consultative direction to meet long‑term strategic goals for product development and market expansion
• Document complex designs, analyses, and test results in concise, actionable reports

Requirements

• 10–15 years of related mechanical engineering experience in high‑precision, industrial, or aerospace environments
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• Expert‑level fluency in statics and dynamics
• Demonstrated experience with motion control, including hydraulics and electro‑mechanical precision systems
• Proven expertise in structural analysis, including stress, fatigue, and performance analysis
• Mastery of FEA (Finite Element Analysis), CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics), and model‑based design
• Proven track record in the design and analysis of complex rotating machinery and components
• Leadership ability to guide creative, independent teams; high emotional intelligence and openness to design feedback
• Expert written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and reporting
