Our client is a global medical technology company seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership for the development of advanced implantable and wearable medical devices. This individual will guide products through the entire development lifecycle while mentoring engineers and driving cross-functional execution.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in medical device product development, strong leadership capabilities, and a history of successfully commercializing complex electromechanical products. This role offers the opportunity to influence next-generation technologies while helping shape the future of a growing engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end mechanical product development from concept through commercial release.
  • Drive technical decision-making across external and implantable electromechanical systems.
  • Establish product requirements, technical specifications, and design strategies.
  • Lead design reviews, engineering discussions, and cross-functional development efforts.
  • Support verification, validation, failure analysis, manufacturing readiness, and product launch activities.
  • Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and design control requirements.
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across multiple development programs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing partners, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of medical device product development experience.
  • Proven success leading products from concept through commercialization.
  • Strong electromechanical product development background.
  • Experience with Class II medical devices; Class III experience preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Creo and/or SolidWorks.
  • Strong knowledge of verification & validation, design controls, manufacturing transfer, and failure analysis.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience influencing teams and driving technical decisions.

Preferred Experience

  • Implantable medical device development.
  • Cochlear implants, hearing technologies, neuromodulation, or similar regulated products.
  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with Design History Files, risk management, FMEA, and advanced engineering analysis tools.
