Role description

Arcadis is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in designing electrical power systems for the municipal water/wastewater industry to join our team in Tampa, Florida. As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical and design consulting services focused on electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding design to support projects for the South Region of our Resilience Water Business. In addition to managing tasks, you will manage team work, oversee the work of junior engineering professionals, and act as an industry leader supporting the growth of our municipal water/wastewater practice.

Role accountabilities

This role is responsible for the electrical design and coordination of various projects with an emphasis on medium and low voltage power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding for water/wastewater projects.

Other responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, technical knowledge, and guidance to electrical staff through direct line management, quality control reviews of work products, and mentorship.
  • Manage projects/tasks budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment.
  • Balance team workload for multiple assignments to complete projects on time and on budget.
  • Support business development and, in coordination with project managers, prepare scopes, schedules, and budget for new projects.
  • Work in multi-discipline teams, coordinating with Control Systems and Process Mechanical groups among others.
  • Establish design criteria, perform design calculations, develop one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans and specifications (serve as Engineer of Record).
  • Conduct field inspections, condition assessments, and oversee projects in construction including identifying deviations from design and adequate completion of designed work.
  • Perform system analysis using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software. At a minimum, provide engineering responsibility for staff using these software packages to publish a power systems study with arc flash hazard analysis.
  • Actively collaborate with our practice leadership, participate in regional / national conferences, and support technical knowledge advancement and sharing.
  • Travel up to 25% may be required for project site visits, client meetings, equipment audits, construction oversight, etc.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Qualifications

The candidate in this role is required to have at least 12 years of relevant work experience, hold a bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, and possess a Professional Engineering (PE) license in Florida.

Key Skills and Attributes

The ideal candidate will have a solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code – NFPA 70, as well as NFPA 820 and NFPA 70E. The ideal candidate will have a basic understanding of AutoCAD, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Sharepoint, Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook. They will also be performance-driven and able to work productively both independently and as a contributing member of a multidisciplinary design team, with ability and desire to mentor and manage junior/staff engineers on multiple concurrent projects.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 15 years of relevant experience and the ability to obtain reciprocity for a Professional Engineering (PE) license in other states and Puerto Rico. They will also demonstrate a solid working knowledge of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, field instrumentation, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) as they relate to electrical design, along with experience using ETAP, SKM Power Tools, or other power systems analysis software. NFPA 70E training is also preferred.

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part time positions. The company provides nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $155,000 - $185,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
