Who you will work with

The Principal Electrical Engineer is responsible for leading electrical design, engineering strategy, and technical decision‑making across utility‑scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, and BESS). The role provides expert‑level support from development and due diligence through execution and commissioning, ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, and financial requirements.

What you will do

  • Lead electrical engineering design and review for BoP systems, substations, collector systems, and interconnection up to POI
  • Oversee and validate EPC contractor and OEM designs, ensuring alignment with project specifications and performance targets
  • Support technical due diligence (TDD) activities, including review of electrical design, technology risks (inverters, transformers, etc.), and grid integration aspects
  • Drive value engineering and optimization, balancing cost, schedule, and performance
  • Ensure compliance with Grid codes and interconnection requirements, safety standards and local regulations, and company engineering standards and best practices
  • Provide technical leadership during development and permitting, contracting and procurement, construction and commissioning
  • Support resolution of technical issues during construction and operations, including root cause analysis
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with project management, procurement, and M&A/BD (for technical assessments)
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and external consultants

What you will bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's preferred)
  • 12+ years of experience in utility‑scale power or renewable energy projects
  • Demonstrated experience in substation and collector system design, utility‑scale solar, wind, or BESS projects, and EPC project environments
  • PE certification is preferred
  • Project Management Certification is preferred (PMI and/or similar)
  • Ability to lead complex technical discussions with EPCs and OEMs, manage risk and drive mitigation strategies
  • Knowledge of overall design and construction of renewable power plants
  • Basic economics general knowledge
  • Knowledge of funding strategies (full equity, funding partnerships, project financing, etc.)
  • Knowledge of H&S laws and regulations
  • Contract and risk management skills
  • Ability to understand all enterprise environmental factors that may affect the project's objectives (market conditions, regulatory trends, etc.)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Innovative and sustainable thinking
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to support and work well with people from different disciplines
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects and meet deadlines
  • Highly developed business acumen
  • Ability to work within a global framework and a matrix organization
  • Ability to work within multidisciplinary and multicultural teams
  • Fluent in English; Spanish and/or Italian considered a plus
  • Must be available for domestic and international travel up to 20% domestic, occasional international
  • A valid driver’s license operable in all 50 states and Canada with a clean driving record; defined as no driving‑related suspension, revocation, or cancellation in the last 3 years, no more than 2 moving violations, no reckless driving incidents; no major driving offenses including DUI/DWI, refusal to test, leaving the scene, driving commercial without CDL, or at‑fault fatal accident in the last 5 years

The pay range for this position is $161,336 to $242,040 annually. The base pay actually offered will be based on several factors, including job‑related knowledge, skills, work experience, education, and internal equity.
