Principal Electrical Engineer - Los Angeles, CA / Remote
Our client is a leading engineering design and commissioning company specializing in MEP critical facilities. This career‑growth opportunity focuses on designing critical power systems for new data centers and expansions, with a strong emphasis on reliability, energy efficiency, and sustainable design.
Responsibilities
- Manage projects, create designs and plans, gather specifications, and execute assignments in a multidisciplinary electrical engineering design role for data center facility projects.
- Develop conceptual designs based on client meetings for field engineer focus.
- Respond to RFPs, review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and establish project objectives, procedures, and performance standards.
- Represent the company in project meetings as needed and collaborate with all design staff.
- Oversee full‑cycle electrical design activities and produce construction documents.
- Lead construction administration, including reviewing and redirecting the design team, coordinating resources, and developing strategies to minimize scope changes.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, project progress reports, and punch lists.
- Maintain shop drawing and RFI logs, and support field observations and commissioning.
Qualifications
- 15+ years of experience.
- Experience working for MEP / A/E firms.
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Licensed PE.
- Experience with the design process of building systems for data center and mission critical projects.
- Knowledge of power system design, including single/three‑phase distribution, lighting controls, grounding, and life safety systems.
- Knowledge of applicable codes (National Electric Code, Life Safety, Energy Conservation Codes).
- Experience with short‑circuit coordination, arc flash studies, and equipment sizing.
- Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD MEP, BIM, and design software.
- Experience working on complex data center/mission critical facilities design projects.
- Extensive experience with UPS, generators, batteries, switchgear, and medium/high voltage systems.
- Strong organizational skills, independent work capability, and effective communication.
- Ability to plan, delegate, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Preferred : Military veterans with electrical or mechanical experience.
