Principal Data Engineer | Freight Transformation Programme

Are you a seasoned Principal Data Engineer with a passion for designing enterprise-scale data platforms and driving data strategy? We are looking for a hands-on technical leader to join a major Freight Transformation Programme , helping to build the next generation of data and integration capabilities supporting critical freight, logistics, and voyage management operations.

This is a high-impact role that combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, offering the opportunity to shape modern data architecture, influence technology direction, and deliver scalable solutions across a complex business environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of enterprise-scale data platforms and end-to-end data solutions.
• Define and influence data strategy, architecture standards, and technology roadmaps.
• Act as a trusted advisor to both business and technical stakeholders.
• Drive best practices across data engineering, integration, governance, and platform development.
• Design robust data ingestion, transformation, integration, and distribution frameworks.
• Lead and support change management, incident management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Drive implementation efficiency, reduce delivery costs, and accelerate value realisation.
• Mentor and develop engineering teams while contributing to technical communities and centres of excellence.
• Deliver technical presentations, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Balance strategic leadership with hands-on technical delivery.

• Enabling seamless integration between multiple enterprise applications and third-party platforms.
• Supporting advanced analytics, operational reporting, risk management, and sustainability reporting.
• Improving master data management and business processes.
• Replacing legacy integrations with scalable, future-ready architecture.
• Delivering cloud-native solutions that support long-term business growth and operational excellence.
