Modified Aide Position

Community Consolidated School District 89 is seeking to hire a modified aide for the school year. This position is five days a week, FTE 1.0. This aide will support the needs of special education children, assisting the students to adapt schoolwork and function to meet the student's needs at Westfield Elementary School.

Qualifications: All applicants for this position are required to meet Illinois requirements for aides, holding an ELS (PARA) license. Employment expectations include maintaining high standards in school relationships, demonstrating integrity and honesty, being considerate and cooperative, and maintaining professional relationships with students, parents, staff members, and others.

Essential duties and responsibilities include making decisions and demonstrating leadership that supports the district's mission, vision, goals, and interests of the students. The aide will communicate, collaborate, and cooperate with colleagues, supervisors, staff, and teacher applicants. They will assist teachers in maintaining student discipline and classroom instruction, escort children to and from various instructional areas, bathrooms, or playground, assist with the setting up of the classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units, coordinate the use of audio-visual equipment and computers for the classroom, keep daily logs of student behavior and learning as directed by the classroom teacher, implement de-escalation strategies and individualized student behavior intervention plans, assist with personal care tasks such as toileting, positioning, student hygiene, and feeding as dictated by student needs, prepare and/or assist with various curricula, such as physical education, as directed, evaluate student performance under the supervision of the classroom teacher, work with students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow up learning activity, serve as a source of information and help any substitute teacher, participate in-service training programs as assigned, advise the classroom teacher or principal immediately of the existence of any problems deemed to warrant prompt attention, advice, or intervention, and perform special assignments and other duties as determined by the classroom teacher or school administration.

Salary and benefits include a salary range of $19.00-$22.75 per hour, 12 sick days and 2 personal days of paid time off, and participation in health and dental insurance programs.
