Position Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite primary care physician services for VA patients in an outpatient clinical setting.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Provide initial evaluation and treatment for minor wound care, respiratory and gastrointestinal illness, burns, musculoskeletal trauma, dermatologic conditions, ear/nose/throat issues, eye concerns, and urologic problems.
  • Manage chronic conditions including coronary artery disease, atherosclerotic disease, Type I and Type II diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, PTSD, depression, and other chronic medical or psychiatric conditions.
  • Follow established VA medication policies and procedures and communicate test results in accordance with VA requirements.
  • Complete documentation in the VA electronic health record by the end of each patient care encounter.
  • Select appropriate Evaluation and Management codes and maintain documentation sufficient to support coding.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, staff meetings, peer review, FPPE/OPPE, and other required clinical performance monitoring.
  • Report patient safety events within required VA timelines and comply with VA patient safety and infection-control standards.
  • Provide replacement coverage within two hours when a scheduled physician cannot begin or complete an assigned shift.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration and National Provider Identifier (NPI).
  • Fluency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Ability to provide current Continuing Medical Education documentation as required for VA credentialing and privileging.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain VA credentialing and privileging before providing services.
  • Citizenship and Federal Eligibility Requirements
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Must be eligible to work on a federal contract and successfully complete all required VA personnel security and suitability screening.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Tier 1 / Low Risk personnel vetting for Occupational Code 0602, Primary Care Physician.
