Power Electronics Engineer | Aerospace | Contract
Port Jefferson, New York
Contract | On-Site / Flexible Structure
Bring your power electronics expertise to a challenging aerospace programme.
Are you an experienced Power Electronics Engineer who has designed, built and tested high-power converters? Have you worked with 10kW–100kW power electronics, PFC or DC-DC conversion? Would you be interested in a flexible contract where your experience can make an immediate impact on real aerospace hardware? If so, this opportunity may be the right next step for you.
A growing aerospace and defense organisation is looking for an experienced contractor to support the development of advanced power conversion hardware. This is a hands-on engineering assignment where you'll work directly with the technical team to solve problems, accelerate development and get hardware successfully through build and test.
The Power Electronics Engineer will support power converters operating below 1kV, with particular interest in engineers experienced with 10kW–100kW systems and 270–800V DC architectures.
As the Power Electronics Engineer your responsibilities will include
- Designing and developing high-power converters and supporting existing designs through hardware validation
- Evaluating PFC, DC-DC and other converter topologies, switching approaches and control-loop performance
- Designing and reviewing transformers, inductors, EMI filters and other power magnetics
- Supporting schematic and PCB development alongside prototype bring-up, debugging, testing and design iteration
- Troubleshooting difficult hardware problems and providing practical technical input to accelerate development
As the Power Electronics Engineer you will bring
- Strong hands-on experience developing power converters, power supplies or power conversion hardware
- Experience with 10kW–100kW systems or comparable high-power applications
- Knowledge of PFC, DC-DC conversion, SiC/GaN switching technology and power magnetics
- Practical experience taking hardware through design, prototype, bring-up, test and troubleshooting
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers developing and testing physical hardware in Port Jefferson, New York
Experience with 270–800V DC systems, EMI filter design, conducted emissions, PLECS, LTspice, Ansys Maxwell, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-704 or DO-160 would be particularly valuable.
Aerospace experience is advantageous but not essential. Relevant expertise from automotive, EV, industrial power, energy, semiconductor equipment, defence, space or other high-performance power applications is welcome.
The Power Electronics Engineer can make an immediate technical contribution without stepping into a traditional permanent position. The team is particularly interested in experienced contractors and consultants who can quickly understand existing hardware, identify problems and help move designs forward.
The Power Electronics Engineer will work directly with the engineering team and remain close to the hardware, making this particularly attractive to someone who still enjoys designing, debugging and getting on the bench rather than moving into management.
All successful applicants will be contacted within two working days.
