Power Electronics EngineerThe Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for driving project delivery overseeing the full lifecycle of Pulsed Power products and solutions—from concept through development, enhancement, testing, and support—ensuring they meet performance, reliability, cost, and compliance standards.This role focuses on converting and controlling electrical energy efficiently using technologies such as converters, inverters, rectifiers, and switching power supplies.You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to define technical needs, troubleshoot design challenges, and ensure quality through structured testing and risk management.Key AccountabilitiesWork with internal and external key stakeholders to define specifications and scope of requirements for related projects and solutionsIdentify opportunities for improvement/enhancement to current product designLead/participate with failure/RCA investigationsDesign and deliver timely, cost-effective solutions with a focus on functionality and reliability supported by comprehensive testing and validation practicesSpecify, procure, and evaluate new components or technology to be applied or integrated into existing products and solutionsCollect, analyze, interpret, and present field and bench testing dataCross-Functional Collaboration - Technical/Customer SupportProvide technical support to both internal and external customers (eg training and troubleshooting)Support the sales and life cycle of BlueSpark® product and solution offerings in collaboration with all levels and departments to capture user needs, identify challenges, and implement improvementsDocumentation, Compliance & Industry EngagementCreate, review, revise and maintain all required documentation, specifications, and schematics to ensure accuracy and compliance with quality management systems (QMS)Develop and maintain technical knowledge by monitoring relevant and emerging technologies and trends and through participation in key industry events/conferences/committeesRequired Skills & Qualifications:Bachelor's or Master's degree in Power Electronics; eligible for P.Eng. registration (APEGA)10+ years of hands-on experience in power electronics design and developmentStrong understanding of power converter topologiesStrong experience in design and development of power electronic circuitsStrong expertise in H-bridge converter design and analysisStrong expertise in embedded firmware development (MCU/DSP), including real-time control and hardware interfacingDeep understanding of signal processing algorithms (implementation and optimization)Deep knowledge of switching devices (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, GaN)Knowledge of EMI mitigation, grounding, thermal performance, and PCB layoutAbility to design for high efficiency, high power density, and thermal performanceExperience with simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, SPICE)Hands-on experience building, testing, debugging, and validating prototypesPython development skillsExperience supporting production, troubleshooting, and continuous improvementWorking knowledge of industry regulations and standards (IEEE, ANSI, CSA, NEC)Experience with tool design for downhole and high-voltage environments is an assetIntermediate+ proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, SharePoint, Zoom, and collaboration toolsAbility to pass pre-employment screening and maintain eligibility for international travelBehavioral Competencies:Growth mindset with passion for emerging technologies and innovationStrong critical thinking and problem-solving skills (collaborative and creative approach)Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skillsAbility to manage competing priorities in fast-paced and unstructured environmentsSelf-driven with the ability to work autonomously and deliver resultsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to influence across all levelsAlignment with company values: problem solving, teamwork, accountability, and funLiving Our Core Values:WE/ME: We act and make decisions for the benefit of the team, not for our own ego or advancement.
