Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced PostgreSQL DBA Engineer with strong expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, performance optimization, high availability, and database operations.

The candidate will be responsible for installing, configuring, managing, patching, upgrading, deploying, and maintaining PostgreSQL database environments. The role also involves working with distributed database technologies such as YugabyteDB and other Postgres-compatible platforms.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of enterprise database architecture, database reliability, scalability, security, and performance. They will also contribute to evaluating new database technologies, defining best practices, automating operational activities, and supporting database infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL database environments.
• Manage database deployments, migrations, upgrades, and ongoing operational support.
• Implement and maintain high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), replication, backup, and recovery solutions.
• Configure and manage intra-data-center and inter-data-center database replication and failover mechanisms.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and capacity; proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Perform PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting.
• Manage database security, authentication, authorization, access controls, and encryption.
• Work with YugabyteDB and Postgres-compatible distributed database technologies, including installation, configuration, cluster management, and upgrades.
• Support automated database provisioning, cluster management, rolling upgrades, backup, and restoration.
• Evaluate new database technologies and recommend suitable architecture, deployment patterns, and operational best practices.
• Develop automation scripts and tools using Python or other programming languages to simplify database administration.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, application, cloud, and operations teams to ensure database reliability and scalability.
• Prepare technical documentation and share database administration standards, operational procedures, and best practices.

Technical Knowledge & Expertise

• Strong understanding of database management concepts, including ACID properties, CAP theorem, consistency models, transactions, and distributed database architecture.
• Experience with enterprise-scale PostgreSQL deployments.
• Good understanding of PostgreSQL internals, replication, partitioning, indexing, connection management, and performance tuning.
• Experience with high availability, fault tolerance, failover, and disaster recovery architectures.
• Knowledge of distributed database concepts such as sharding, replication, cluster management, and data consistency.
• Experience with backup and restoration strategies and database recovery procedures.
• Understanding of database monitoring, alerting, troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

Additional Desirable Skills

• Experience with NoSQL databases such as Couchbase and MongoDB.
• Knowledge of YugabyteDB, Google Spanner, Cassandra, or other distributed database technologies.
• Oracle Database administration experience.
• Strong Unix/Linux command-line skills and system administration knowledge.
• Programming or scripting experience in Python, Shell, or similar languages.
• Experience with cloud database services and Cloud DBA operations.
• Knowledge of AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or other public cloud environments.
• Experience with virtualization and containerization technologies such as VMware, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Knowledge of modern storage, compute, and hyper-converged infrastructure technologies.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Strong hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL Database Administrator or PostgreSQL DBA Engineer.
• Experience supporting large-scale, enterprise database environments.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex database and infrastructure-related issues.
• Strong understanding of database availability, scalability, security, and performance optimization.
• Ability to automate repetitive DBA activities using scripting or programming.
• Willingness to learn and develop expertise in YugabyteDB and distributed database technologies.
