Job Description

We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL DBA Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in PostgreSQL database administration, database infrastructure, and distributed database technologies.

The ideal candidate will have experience installing, configuring, deploying, upgrading, patching, and maintaining enterprise-scale PostgreSQL database environments. This role will also involve working with YugabyteDB and other Postgres-compatible database technologies, ensuring high availability, scalability, reliability, and performance.

The candidate will be responsible for evaluating database technologies, implementing database administration best practices, managing database clusters, and supporting enterprise database operations.

Strong PostgreSQL experience is mandatory. Experience with YugabyteDB, NoSQL databases such as Couchbase and MongoDB, Oracle, cloud database administration, and programming or scripting is highly preferred.

Candidates with experience in PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Google Spanner, Oracle, or other distributed database technologies who are interested in developing expertise in YugabyteDB are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, deploy, patch, upgrade, and maintain PostgreSQL and Yugabyte database environments.
• Evaluate new and upgraded Yugabyte and PostgreSQL-compatible database offerings for enterprise implementation.
• Perform database administration activities, including configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and operational support.
• Design, implement, and manage enterprise-scale database clusters.
• Configure and maintain high availability (HA), fault tolerance, replication, and failover mechanisms.
• Support intra-data-center and inter-data-center database deployments.
• Manage database cluster provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Implement automated database provisioning and deployment processes.
• Perform rolling upgrades, database patching, and version upgrades with minimal operational disruption.
• Develop and maintain database backup, restoration, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Implement database security mechanisms, access controls, and operational best practices.
• Monitor database health, performance, availability, and resource utilization.
• Configure monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting mechanisms for database environments.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, replication failures, cluster issues, and operational incidents.
• Perform database performance tuning and optimization.
• Work with YugabyteDB internals, including sharding, replication settings, and distributed database configurations.
• Apply database concepts such as ACID properties, CAP theorem, consistency models, and distributed database architecture.
• Develop scripts, utilities, and automation tools using Python or other programming languages.
• Document database administration procedures, technical standards, operational patterns, and best practices.
• Collaborate with database administration, infrastructure, hosting, engineering, and operational support teams.
• Present and explain database technologies, implementation approaches, and best practices to technical teams.

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA, PostgreSQL Database Engineer, or Database Administrator.
• PostgreSQL experience is mandatory.
• Experience with enterprise database installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and administration.
• Strong understanding of relational database management systems and database architecture.
• Experience with database patching, upgrades, configuration, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of database replication, high availability, failover, and fault tolerance.
• Experience with database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
• Understanding of database security, access management, and monitoring.
• Knowledge of database performance tuning and optimization.
• Understanding of database concepts, including ACID, CAP theorem, and consistency models.
• Experience with Python or another programming/scripting language.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with technical and operational teams.
