A new opportunity has arisen to extend the Dedalus framework (see ) for the Direct Statistical Simulation of partial differential equations (PDEs) in multi-scale physics and fluid dynamics (see for instance ).

The project, funded by the European Research Council, involves working with the Dedalus developer team, including Geoff Vasil, Jeff Oishi, and Keaton Burns, as well as Profs. Steven Tobias and Brad Marston, to provide a flexible package for generating and solving systems of equations for the statistical properties of fluid flows in various geometries.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in object-oriented and functional programming practices, particularly with Python, as well as experience in mathematical statistics, multi-scale modeling, and spectral numerical methods. A background in Machine Learning or computational optimization is also beneficial.

The Dedalus project is a community-developed code with a diverse user base, and this project will involve collaborative development, including public peer-review of code. The project combines new areas in statistics, PDEs, and automated computational science, requiring an eagerness to learn and apply various mathematical and computational techniques.
