Portfolio Engineer – Electric Distribution Capital Planning

A leading project and program management organization is seeking a Portfolio Engineer to support a major electric utility's distribution capital planning program.

This role will help develop and manage long-range electric distribution capital portfolios and support the implementation of a 5-year capital plan. The Portfolio Engineer will work closely with engineering, project management, operations, procurement, finance, and utility stakeholders.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and maintain long-range electric distribution capital portfolios.
  • Support 5-year capital planning and project development.
  • Evaluate project needs, priorities, timing, feasibility, and funding requirements.
  • Develop preliminary project scopes, estimates, schedules, and funding requirements.
  • Review project information for scope, justification, accuracy, and completeness.
  • Support distribution equipment and transformer planning.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations, project management, and finance teams.
  • Analyze portfolio data to identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities.
  • Identify project dependencies, scheduling constraints, and execution risks.
  • Support project readiness and release processes.
  • Improve planning processes, tools, templates, and data quality.
What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to coordinate projects across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Ability to review engineering and project information and support scope, estimates, schedules, and funding.
  • U.S. work authorization without employer sponsorship.

Preferred:

  • 3+ years of experience in electric utility planning, transmission, distribution, or substation projects.
  • Utility capital planning or portfolio management experience.
  • Distribution equipment or transformer planning experience.
  • Experience working with engineering, procurement, operations, project management, and finance teams.
  • Experience with electric utilities or utility engineering consulting firms.
  • Experience with process improvement, data quality, automation, or governance.
Work Arrangement

The preferred arrangement is a one-year field assignment in Akron, Ohio. An alternative office-based arrangement may be available with approximately one week of travel to Akron each month.

Approved business travel is reimbursed.

Compensation & Benefits
  • $115,000–$145,000 base salary, based on experience
