Portfolio Analytics Associate
Location: On-site in Washington, D.C.
Reports to: Director of Capital Markets & Portfolio Risk
Experience: Approximately 2–3 years of relevant experience
Position Summary
We are seeking a Portfolio Analytics Associate to help manage the data and workflows behind portfolio performance and risk reporting. The associate will use Addepar and other analytical tools to produce reports, investigate discrepancies, and turn complex portfolio data into clear information for the investment office and senior stakeholders.
This is primarily a portfolio data and reporting role, with opportunities to support investment research and other teams. The ideal candidate brings strong data-management skills, sound analytical judgment, and the initiative to learn unfamiliar systems and solve problems independently. Deep investment expertise is not required at the outset, but an interest in learning how different assets and portfolios are measured is essential.
Primary Responsibilities: Portfolio Data, Analytics, and Reporting
- Maintain the classifications, data structures, and workflows used to report on holdings, transactions, cash flows, and exposures across portfolios, entities, and asset classes.
- Produce and improve recurring performance, allocation, and risk reports using Addepar and other reporting tools.
- Validate source data and reporting outputs; investigate discrepancies and work with finance and accounting colleagues to resolve them.
- Document data definitions, calculations, and reporting processes so that results are consistent and repeatable.
- Work with portfolio performance measures, including internal rate of return (IRR), and develop an understanding of how cash-flow timing and asset-class characteristics affect reported results.
- Use Excel and business intelligence tools to analyze data, improve reporting, and reduce manual work where practical.
- Present categorical comparisons, time-series trends, and portfolio-level results through clear tables, charts, dashboards, and presentations.
- Respond to ad hoc analytical questions with clear findings, supporting data, and an explanation of material limitations.
Secondary Responsibilities: Research and Cross-Team Support
- Support investment research through data gathering, model checks, and company and industry analysis.
- Assist with analyses related to portfolio allocation, position sizing, scenarios, and concentration.
- Help develop analyses used to monitor existing direct investments and fund positions.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree and approximately 2–3 years of relevant experience in data analytics, preferably in investments, financial services, or an adjacent field.
- Strong Excel skills and experience using at least one business intelligence or data-visualization tool, such as Tableau or Power BI.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, validate, reconcile, and interpret data from multiple sources.
- Familiarity with investment performance concepts and major asset classes; willingness to develop deeper expertise on the job.
- Ability to learn complex technical systems, investigate unfamiliar problems, and make progress with limited day-to-day instruction.
- Clear written and verbal communication, strong attention to detail, and discretion with confidential information.
Preferred:
- Experience with Addepar or another portfolio reporting or investment management platform.
- Python and SQL skills for data analysis and automation.
- Experience reporting across both public and private investments.
- Progress toward the CFA designation.
What Success Looks Like
The associate becomes a trusted owner of the portfolio-reporting workflow. Portfolio data is organized and reconciled, discrepancies are investigated promptly, and reports are accurate and clear. The investment office can rely on the associate to take an unfamiliar analytical question from underlying data to a useful answer.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $110-130k base
- 15-20% discretionary bonus
- Excellent Benefits
- Strong Company Culture
