Job Summary

This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for “( POOL )” positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the needarises. If/when a position becomes available, the College willreview applications from this pool, and interview candidates whosequalifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain theiractive status in the pool. Provide individual lessons on your primary instrument. Participatein faculty performances. Recruit and promote the college, musicprogram, and Performing Arts department. Prepare music-majorstudents for eventual transfer to four-year University. Communicatewith students in a timely manner including setting a teachingschedule, documenting lessons, and assessing student progress eachterm. Prepare students for individual lesson juries at the end ofeach term.

Essential Duties

  1. Instruct students individually in lessons using music fromacross the solo repertoire and appropriate for the student’scurrent level and needs.
  2. Meet periodically with the program chair to discuss musicprogram needs.
  3. Participate as assigned in occasional department and advisorymeetings.
  4. Complete all administrative tasks associated with teaching acourse: assign and grade student work, establish reasonablecommunication with students, report student attainment of courseoutcomes, maintain student records, comply with college policiesand processes related to teaching workload.
  5. Assess student abilities based on assessment of initial abilitylevel and progress to their overall goal.
  6. Maintain awareness of audition requirements for music majors inmusic education and performance proficiency based examination upongraduation and/or transfer.
  7. Recruit and promote the LBCC music program on campus and in thecommunity.
  8. Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable andconsistent out-of-class contact with students.
  9. Connect students to college support services and resources topromote student success and retention. Maintain reasonablecommunication with college support services to this end.
  10. Work effectively with students and staff of various culturaland socioeconomic backgrounds and ages. Promote both a classroomenvironment and a curriculum of equity and inclusivity.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Requires arm, hand and finger dexterity to operate an instrument.Requires sufficient hearing and well-developed speaking ability tocommunicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to readwords, music and numbers. Requires sufficient aural and visualproficiency to identify, assess, diagnose, and correct playingproblems in lessons and performance. Work is performed in a classroom, teaching studio, or officesetting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.Considerable time is spent working at a piano.

Education and Experience

Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In orderto be considered, your application must clearly show you meet theminimum qualifications for this position.

Master’s degree in music, performance, pedagogy, accompanying,music education (M.M., M.Mus, M.Mus.Ed, or MA) is required.Extensive experience and recommendations may be considered in lieuof the master’s degree. Knowledge of age appropriate instrumentaltechnique and pedagogy is required. Must have experience as a performer. Must have working proficiency on the piano.

Provisional: Bachelor’s degree plus 27 graduate quarter hours in the above field(s) AND in active pursuitof master’s degree or doctorate. Applicants hired under thisqualification will be approved to teach in a provisional capacityuntil proof of completion of the minimum qualifications is providedto the college.

Salary and Compensation Information

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty beginat Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being “rolled” once per term,if eligible.

    • Table 1 illustrates the cost per credit for each step on thepay scale. Instructors new to the College typically start at therate listed in column 1.
