Essential Functions

Expected to perform the following or it is a critical part of the position: Running, driving motor vehicles at a high rate of speed, lifting (over 50 lbs.), pushing or pulling, climbing, bending, reaching, hand dexterity (grasping, holding), reading, writing, eye-hand coordination, seeing (near and/or far, color, depth, field of vision), hearing, talking, contact with the general public, working alone, overtime, inside and outside and at night.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be nineteen (19) years of age on date of appointment.
  • Associates degree with coursework in criminal justice or related field, or equivalent education and/or experience.
  • Licensed as a police officer with an "Active" or "Inactive" status as set by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES), OR licensed in another state with an equivalent status and subject to meeting MCOLES' licensing requirements. 1-3 or more years' experience as an MCOLES licensed law enforcement officer.
  • Honorably discharged Veterans from the USA Armed Forces must supply a copy of your DD-214.

Special Requirements:

  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Legally able to work in the United States.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, and on an overtime basis.
  • Candidates with NO prior law enforcement experience or certification are eligible to apply for the Police Recruit position.
