The City of Davis is seeking candidates for the position of Police Officer. This role offers a competitive salary range of $97,968.00 to $125,028.80 annually and is based in Davis, CA. The job is full-time and the department is the Police Department under the Patrol Division.

The job description includes a wide variety of law enforcement and community relations duties. This involves collaborative problem solving with communities, the detection and prevention of crime, the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws, codes, and ordinances, surveillance, investigative work, traffic flow control, crime prevention and enforcement programs, responding to routine and emergency calls, preparation of cases and testimony in court, specialized departmental roles, provision of information and assistance to the public, familiarization with community residents, and other related work as required or assigned.

The typical duties include maintaining a visible presence to detect or deter crime, serving as a spokesperson at community events, building relationships with community-based partners, patrolling the city to observe and address suspicious activities, responding to calls for service, enforcing laws, providing information and assistance to the public, controlling traffic, conducting investigations, detaining individuals, preparing police reports, securing crime scenes, interviewing people, preparing cases for trial, providing emergency medical attention, providing mutual aid to other law enforcement agencies, providing outreach to homeless individuals, training officers, attending meetings and training sessions, and performing other duties as assigned.

The typical qualifications include knowledge of police-community relations, principles of procedural justice, operations of a municipal law enforcement agency, law enforcement techniques, rules of evidence, vehicle and equipment operations, criminal court system processes, interviewing techniques, traffic control methods, police communications, safety practices, first aid techniques, record keeping, department and city safety rules, English language skills, modern equipment and communication tools, and ability to perform routine and complex duties, make independent decisions, coordinate law enforcement activities, observe accurately, communicate effectively, apprehend and subdue individuals, process crime scenes, operate equipment and vehicles safely, work in close proximity with specialty units, organize work, use computer systems and software applications, and maintain confidentiality.
